Praised by the Daily Telegraph for "his wonderfully light touch and lyrical elegance" and defined by Gramophone magazine as "one of the most original thinkers of his generation", Federico Colli quickly gained worldwide fame for his compelling and non-compelling interpretations. conventional, as well as for the clarity of its sonority. The extraordinary originality and the highly ingenious and philosophical approach to music have made his performances and recordings prodigious and multidimensional. His first recording of Domenico Scarlatti's Sonatas, recorded for Chandos Records, to which he is linked by an exclusive relationship, received the Presto Classical Recording of the Year award. The Second Volume of Scarlatti's Sonatas, was awarded Recording of the Month by BBC Music Magazine and International Piano Magazine and was chosen by BBC Music Magazine as one of the best classical music albums of 2020.
After winning the Mozart Competition in Salzburg in 2011 and the Gold Medal at The Leeds International Piano Competition in 2012, International Piano Magazine selected him as one of the “30 pianists under 30 who will be able to dominate the scene in the years to come. ". Since then, Federico Colli has performed with prestigious orchestras, including the Mariinsky Orchestra and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony and the BBC Philharmonic, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic of Stockholm, the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Symphony Orchestra of RAI and the Orchester national d'Île-de-France. Federico Colli, one of the most prolific and intriguing recital performers, has performed in some of the most prestigious halls in the world, including the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Rudolfinum in Prague, the Philharmonie in Paris, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Nikkei Hall in Tokyo, the Hong Kong City Hall, the Seoul Kumho Art Hall, Lincoln Center in New York and Bennet Gordon Hall in Chicago. He has also been a guest of numerous festivals, including: the Ruhr Piano Festival in Dortmund, the Dvorak International Festival in Prague, the Chopin and his Europe Festival in Warsaw, the Lucerne Festival and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.
The appointments in the 2021/2022 season include the performance of Grieg's Piano Concerto together with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Concerto n. 3 for piano by Bartok with the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto, the Mozart Piano Concerto K. 488 with the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, the Piano Concerto no. 4 by Beethoven with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and the Concerto n. 2 for piano by Shostakovich with the Sichuan Orchestra of China. Recital appointments include performances at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Konserthuset in Stockholm, the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna for the Bechstein Piano Series, the Town Hall in Leeds, a recital tour in North America (Herbst Theater in San Francisco, Gilmore Rising Stars Series and Chopin Society of Vancouver) and a recitalin duo together with violinist Josef Špaček at the Rudolfinum in Prague.
In addition to live performances, Federico Colli is also engaged in a busy recording program. His future releases for Chandos include a Russian music project focusing on Shostakovich and Prokofiev, as well as a five-year long, multi-recording work devoted to Mozart and his solo chamber music repertoire. Thanks to his love for music, during the pandemic Federico Colli gave life to a series of short videos for his YouTube channel conceived to rediscover Mozart's Fantasia in C minor K475 and to give the right place to the composer's musical ideas at within a historical and cultural context. Inspired by the mystery surrounding the genesis of this opera, Federico Colli has created a compelling tale based on his deep knowledge of Mozart's biographies and letters, as well as 18th century history and culture.
Born in Brescia in 1988, Federico Colli studied at the Milan Conservatory, at the International Academy of Piano in Imola and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, under the guidance of Sergio Marengoni, Konstantin Bogino, Boris Petrushansky and Pavel Gililov.
