Vicenza in Lirica 2022 - X edition
'Music unites, is the motto of the Vicenza in Lirica 2022 Festival, on the bill for Monteverdi and Mozart
It comes to the tenth edition the Vicenza in Opera Festival, scheduled from 17 June to 22 October 2022 in the Palladian city, with a program of operas, concerts, conferences and lyric advanced courses.

Conceived and promoted byHarmonic Concept Association and directed by Andrea Castello, Vicenza in Lirica takes place in the extraordinary setting of Olympic Theater, the oldest covered theater building in the world, and in other significant places in Vicenza, a Unesco heritage city. As usual, the event hosts established artists and numerous young soloists in their career start. Among the new productions, of particular importance The fight of Tancredi and Clorinda of Monteverdi and the Don Giovanni is Mozart.

The Festival 2022 part in June with three events on the occasion of the European Music Festival, it continues with the main bill in September, and ends on October 22 at the Basilica of Saints Felice and Fortunato.

The program in detail

The X edition of Vicenza in Opera opens on June 17, 2022 (9 pm) to Olympic Theater with two masterpieces by Claudio Monteverdi, the Ball of the ingrates (1608) and the Fight of Tancred and Clorinda (1624). Representative style madrigals, the first amorous, the second warrior, the compositions are both part of Claudio Monteverdi's VIII Book of madrigals: the Ball of the ingrates, based on a text by Ottavio Rinuccini, was set to music on the occasion of the wedding of Prince Francesco Gonzaga and was to entertain the guests and involve them in the dance. The Fight of Tancred and Clorinda, based on a text by Torquato Tasso, it was composed on canto XII of the liberated Jerusalem.

The two titles will be staged by a cast of young opera singers and dancers thanks to the collaboration with the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Rome and with the musical advice of the alto Sara Mingardo. On stage, the singers Gennaro Di Filippo, Antonia Salzano, Isabella De Massis, Marta Pacifici, Alina Tugusheva, Roberto Manuel Zangari, Jesus Hernandez, accompanied byEnsemble Caecilia Antiqua concertato on harpsichord from Angela Naccari. With them the dancers Silvia Pinna, Martina Moroni, Giada Sereni is Yari Molinari. La mise en espace is edited by Cesare Scarton, the choreographies are by Silvia Pinna for the Ball of Ingrate and of Daniele Toti for the Combat of Tancred and Clorinda, the costumes are signed by Giuseppe Bellini.

The June 18 (9 pm), still al Olympic Theater, the charity event of Vicenza in Lirica is back in favor of AXES Gulliver - Syndrome Association of Sotos Italia, to which the entire proceeds of the evening will be donated. The concert is placed under thehigh patronage of the European Parliament, and will feature the Choir and the Orchestra of Vicenza directed by the Maestro Giuliano Fracasso, with the extraordinary participation of the baritone Piero Guarnera and other soloists from the international opera scene. On the program pages of work by Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini.

Complete the June bill Love, Virtue and Ecstasy, Baroque concert for the European Music Festival scheduled for June 21st (9 pm) in Garden of the Olympic Theater, protagonists the soprano Valentina Di Blasio and the chamber ensemble The Dear Ones, harpsichord concertatore Moses Edmondo Savio. Arias, cantatas and instrumental pieces by Leonardo Leo, Michelangelo Rossi, Georg Friedrich Händel, Domenico Scarlatti is Antonio Vivaldi.

After the summer break, Vicenza in Lirica returns to the scene as usual in September, with a billboard dedicated for the second consecutive year to the genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

To open the central part of the programming, the September 3 (9 pm) at the Olympic Theater of Vicenza, will be the Mass in C minor K 427 by the composer from Salzburg, presented exclusively for the Festival in the new performing version by Luca Guglielmi, who will direct the execution on the podium of theOrchestra of Padua and Veneto. The Iris Ensemble Choir is led by Marina Malavasi, soloists will be the sopranos Nina Solodovnikova is Paola Leoci, the tenor Giuseppe Di Giacinto and the bass Giacomo Nanni.

It continues on September 4th (6 pm) with the traditional concert at the Temple of Santa Corona, created in collaboration with the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan. The evening, entitled Actus tragicus: the Baroque Cantata, sees theVocal and instrumental ensemble of the Conservatory's Institute of Ancient Music directed by the master Stefano Bagliano, two compositions on the program, the Cantata funebre ('Trauerkantate') Du aber, Daniel, gehe hin of Georg Philipp Telemann is Actus Tragicus, BWV 106 of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Always at Olympic Theater L'8 and 10 September (8.30 pm) one of the greatest masterpieces of Mozart, Don Giovanni, playful drama in two acts with libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, composed in 1787. The main interpreters of the work will be selected by Opera competition Tullio Serafin, organized thanks to the hospitality of various prestigious theaters (Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Sociale in Rovigo, Tullio Serafin Theater in Cavarzere). Conductor and harpsichord conductor will be Edmondo Mosè Savio, at the helm ofOrchestra of the Hills Morenici of Brescia, the Chorus Voc'è - Classical choral workshop is prepared by Alberto Spadarotto, while the direction is entrusted to Marina Bianchi, with costumes and sets by Leila Fteita.

The Vicenza in Lirica 2022 Festival will conclude Stabat mater (1781) of Luigi Boccherini, scheduled for October 22 in Basilica of Saints Felice and Fortunato of Vicenza, Relevant the cast, with the soprano Silvia Frigato, among the most popular voices of Baroque music, and The Art of the Arch, a prestigious ensemble specializing in historically informed performance practice, which since 1994 boasts an extensive concert and record activity. At the concert one of the most authoritative interpreters of ancient music, the violinist Federico Guglielmo, who regularly collaborates as a conductor and soloist with major groups around the world.

Also worth mentioning is a completely new event created by the students of the Liceo Guarino Veronese of San Bonifacio (Verona), an institute that has been collaborating with the Festival since 2019 in the field of activities dedicated to young people: the September 7 (9 pm) the show will be proposed at the Olympic Theater  Let's exchange views: from Plautus to Mozart through Shakespeare, collage between prose and opera centered on the figure of Don Giovanni.


The Vicenza in Lirica program will be further enriched by other events'Around the Festival', related to training and the presentation of new editorial proposals. Among the first, the Masterclass of high education in opera singing held by the mezzo-soprano Renata Lamanda, with concert final of the students the August 31 (9 pm) to Cloister of San Lorenzo, and the project Opera-Studio aimed at the improvement and debut of the soloists selected for the cast of Don Giovanni on stage at the Festival.

Among the latter, the presentation of the book Memories House. An Italian story of Francesco Lodola, (Ed. Albatros Il Filo), to be held on September 6 (6 pm) in the evocative setting of the Busato Art Printing House of Vicenza, while theSeptember 8 in the same place Alberto Mattioli is Marco Ubezio  they will present their book Elizabeth - The infinite Queen (Ed. Garzanti). The September 10 (6 pm) at the Garden of the Olympic Theater the baritone Federico Longhi will present his new record VIE Voyage Vocal de la France à l'Italie, in dialogue with the musicologist and critic Alexander Mumble it.
