Venice, the Golden Lion of the Music Biennale goes to Giorgio Battistelli
The composer receives the lifetime achievement award for his experimental musical theater activity and intense opera production

This was decided by the Board of Directors of the Venice Biennale, accepting the proposal of Lucia Ronchetti, Director of the Music sector, in view of the 66th International Festival of Contemporary Music, staged in Venice from 14 to 25 September next.

Giorgio Battistelli's long and celebrated career began in the 1970s with experimental theater projects that have become emblematic and founding elements of musical research in the theatricalization of sound and the theatricality of the executive gesture.. "

And two works by Battistelli will open and close the 66. International Festival of Contemporary Music of the Venice Biennale “Out of Stage” dedicated to the new forms of experimental musical theater, staged since 14 to 25 September 2022.

To inaugurate the Festival on September 14 at the Teatro La Fenice will be a new version of Jules Verne, Chamber fantasy in the form of a performance for trio of percussion, three voices, trumpet and piano from 1987 which will see the author Battistelli making his debut in the unprecedented role of director, with the interpretation of the trio Ars Ludi.

Instead, it will be the great scenic and musical fresco Experimentum Mundi, cult work by Giorgio Battistelli presented in a new version, to close the Venetian review on September 25, 2022 at the Teatro alle Tese.
