Verdi Theater of Padua
The Teatro Nuovo today Teatro Verdi is the main Paduan theater.

Season

The new Paduan theater season will be inaugurated by Pier Luigi Pizzi, who starting from 20 October, after his debut in the national premiere in Venice, will stage his latest work for five days at the Verdi Theater: Turandot. The titles scheduled for January are Luigi Pirandello's Enrico IV, directed by Yannis Kokkos and starring Sebastiano Lo Monaco, and Carlo Goldoni's The Two Venetian Twins directed by Valter Malosti. The 21/22 season ends by Alessandra Ferri who in L'heure exquise celebrates her forty years of career playing the role of the ballerina agée that Maurice Béjart had imagined for Carla Fracci.

The Verdi Theater, commissioned by a company of Paduan nobles, was built by the Paduan architect Giovanni Gloria on a project by the architect Antonio Cugini of Reggio.
In 1751 it was inaugurated with a melodrama by Metastasio and was called "Teatro Nuovo e della Nobiltà".

In 1847 it was renovated on the outside by Antonio Monte based on a design by Giuseppe Jappelli.

In 1884 it was internally modernized by the Milanese architect Achille Sfondrini who had designed the Rome Opera House.

The vault, which represents the Dance of the Hours, was painted by Pietro Paoletti and later rebuilt by Giacomo Casa.

The inauguration took place on June 8, 1884 with the current name. The music for the opening of the modernized theater is due to the Paduan musician Angelo Tessaro.
