Fraschini Theater of Pavia
Miraculously intact from its origins, the Fraschini Theater was built in just two years to a design by Antonio Galli Bibiena and was inaugurated in 1773.

In 1772 four noble lords from Pavia united to form the Society of Knights, represented by the enlightened decurionate from Pavia: Count Francesco Gamberana Beccarla, Marquis Pio Bellisomi, Marquis Luigi Bellingeri Provera and Count Giuseppe de' Giorgi Vistarino. They shared the administration and direction of the theater and had entrusted the project to carry it out to Antonio Galli da Bibbiena, representative of an ancient and prestigious family of set designers-architects. The works for the construction of the Teatro dei Quattro Nobili Cavalieri began in 1771 and the theater inaugurated its first season in 1773, in the presence of the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria. The theater was inaugurated on 24 May 1773 with the opera Il Demetrio , composed by the Czech composer Josef Mysliveček on verses by Pietro Metastasio.
In the first seasons of the eighteenth century, comic operas, ballets and masked comedies were performed.
The "Carnival Season", the "Spring Season" and shows on the occasion of the S. Agostino Fair in August have been witnessed since the 19th century.
The twentieth century is characterized by prose performances with the great comedians of the time: Renzo Ricci, Angelo Musco, Cesco Baseggio. Since the post-war period, the great stars of classical theater: Vittorio Gassman, the stars of the magazine Carlo Dapporto, Macario, the young Dario Fo, Giustino Durano and many other artists have trod the tables of this stage.
