“ Season 2023/24 | Symphony ”
Thursday November 9 the musical director Riccardo Chailly returns to the Piermarini podium inaugurating the 2023/24 Symphonic Season of the Teatro alla Scala: driving theOrchestra he was born in Choir educated by Alberto Malazzi, will propose i Four sacred pieces of Giuseppe Verdi, an ideal continuation of Verdi's path undertaken with the recent European tour and anticipation of Don Carlo inaugural on December 7th.

Spiritual testimony of the Maestro from Busseto, the pieces set to music both the traditional prayers of the Ave Maria and the Te Deum, and the verses of Jacopone da Todi (the Stabat Mater) and Dante Alighieri (le Laudi to the Virgin Mary, from Canto XXXIII of Paradiso). Published jointly by Ricordi in 1898, i Four sacred pieces they were composed at different times between 1889 and 1897 and show Verdi's interest in liturgical music even beyond the great commitment of Requiem (1874).

In the first part of the concert Chailly will conduct the Symphony n. 4, said 'Tragic' for the characteristic shade in C minor, a work by a just nineteen-year-old Franz Schubert who went beyond the Rossini imprint of his first compositions in search of a more personal language, traversed by romantic anxieties and Beethovenian influences.

The Four Sacred Pieces

L'Ave Maria, for a cappella choir, was published in Milan in 1889; the Stabat mater, for choir and orchestra on the text by Jacopone da Todi, it is the most ambitious composition, inspired by a solid unitary design. They are from 1890 Laudi to the Virgin Mary, for a cappella choir of sopranos and contraltos, on verses from Canto XXXIII of Dante's Paradise, while the Te Deum for double choir and orchestra was composed between 1895 and 1896.
