Teatro alla Scala, the great return of William Forsythe, two choreographies of the Evening with a new creation in world premiere
Great expectations for the show which includes the unpublished work Blake Works V, specially created for the Scaliger corps de ballet
Organized by: Teatro alla Scala Foundation

Teatro alla Scala Foundation Presents

"Season 2022 - 23"
Scheduled from 10 to 30 May 2023 , the Evening William Forsythe marks the great return to Ladder by the famous American choreographer, with a bipartite show on music by James Blake, including a premiere work.

After the presentation of some of Forsythe's most famous 'historical' choreographies in past seasons, the Scaliger corps de ballet now enters into direct dialogue with the choreographer, inserting itself into his creative moment in the present. There Forsythe Evening is based on the sound worlds of James Blake, the London singer and musician who incorporates elements of R&B, soul, dubstep, electronica and pop into his intriguing musical experiments.

The show scheduled at La Scala presents for the first time both the starting point and the new arrival point of the choreographic exploration that Forsythe is dedicating to this musical language: exploration started with Blake Works I – choreography on seven songs of the album The Colour in Anything, created in 2016 at the Paris Opéra and recipient of numerous prizes and awards – then moved to the digital stage in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, with The Barre Project (Blake Works II), a filmed dance – five musical episodes centered on the primary element of the exercises, the barre – and transmitted in streaming, and which now arrives at La Scala with the world premiere of Blake Works V, also marking a new chapter in the series bars, work in constant evolution.

The performances at the Piermarini foresee new choreographic sections which will highlight the diverse and formidable talents of the Company: an unpublished and unique version, specially created for the Ballet of the Teatro alla Scala.
