Since its foundation, the Società Amici della Musica of Ancona has created concert seasons with the major artists on the world scene, offering the Ancona public the same listening opportunities as the major international centers.
The Company, which stopped its activity only during the tragic years of the two world wars, in 2021 reaches the milestone of 100 seasons, with over 1100 concerts performed. It has hosted musicians who have become legendary, such as Alfredo Casella, Ottorino Respighi, Walter Gieseking, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Andres Segovia, Alirio Diaz, Sviatoslav Richter, Cathy Berberian the Italian Quartet, the Trieste Trio. In more recent years for the Società Amici della Musica of Ancona have played very famous artists such as Uto Ughi, Grigory Sokolov, Viktoria Mullova, Alexander Lonquich, Antonio Pappano, Fabio Biondi with Europa Galante, Miša Maisky and Krystian Zimerman, to name just a few. . Alongside the big names, the Ancona company has always given ample space to young and highly talented emerging musicians, contributing to the enhancement of the new generations of performers.
The seasons feature soloists, chamber musicians and large orchestral concerts. If at the center of the chosen repertoire is the classical and romantic music of the European eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, there is no lack of in-depth studies dedicated to Baroque music and the twentieth century, and innovative border proposals.
The concerts of the 'Guido Michelli' Friends of Music Society take place mainly at the Teatro delle Muse and the Experimental Theater, and also at the Orfeo Tamburi Auditorium of the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona.
The Company also pays particular attention to training the public through meetings with artists, listening guides and open rehearsals. Special attention is paid to young and very young people, bringing the musicians available to speak in schools, organizing other targeted initiatives and offering very low tickets.
The Friends of Music of Ancona collaborate with the main regional cultural realities, first of all the FORM - Marchigiana Philharmonic Orchestra, an indispensable partner for symphonic concerts. The Marche Concerti regional network was created with the Associazione Musicale Appassionata of Macerata and the Concerts Organization of Pesaro, with the aim of bringing the most prestigious concerts on tour in the Region.
The Society currently avails itself of the Artistic Direction of Professor Guido Barbieri, a well-known musicologist and music critic, professor of the Conservatory, as well as voice of Rai Radio 3.
