Baroque signs 2022 • Foligno - XLIII edition
One of the oldest festivals in Umbria is back, with concerts, organ recitals, shows, conferences and workshops, and in closing the traditional Baroque Night
The festival is back Baroque signs, on stage from 27 August to 10 September 2022 to Foligno (Perugia) and in the hamlets of Sassovivo, Belfiore, Pale, Vescia, Rasiglia, San Giovanni Profiamma.

Arrived at the 43. edition, the Baroque Signs festival confirms itself as an important event in the national artistic panorama, proposing a varied billboard of concerts, organ recitals, theater performances (27.08.) And dance (10.09.), An appointment with the cinema, as well as several conferences and two workshops, dance and baroque singing, to close with the traditional Baroque night that on 10 September will seal the 2022 edition of the exhibition in the historic center of the Umbrian city.

Comment the artistic director Fabio Ciofini: “It is the return of one of the oldest festivals in Umbria in an edition that combines the different forms of art and confirms the“ baroque signs ”in the following centuries. This year's edition will host great artists and will offer a proper space to emerging young people, consolidating the broad vocation of the Festival, a historical point of reference for the culture of the Baroque. Baroque Signs 2022 - the details of the billboard


Placed under the motto of Lorenzo the Magnificent "All sad to think helmets, let's party though", the 43. Baroque Signs Festival opens Saturday August 27 (9 pm) atSan Domenico Auditorium in Foligno with the scenic representation of Venus and Adonis, the epic poem by William Shakespeare inspired by the tenth book of Metamorphosis by Ovid. Shakespeare's first work to be printed (1593), Venus and Adonis it met with resounding success, as evidenced by the large number of reprints, ten only in the lifetime of its author.

On stage they will go up Gianluigi Fogacci (Shakespeare) Melania Giglio (Venus) and Riccardo Parravicini (Adonis), directed by Daniele Salvo, the music is by Patrizio Maria D'Artista, the costumes of Daniele Gelsi, the scenes of Fabiana Di Marco and the lighting design of Humble Vainieri.


Sunday August 28 the festival continues with a double concert: at 18 hours in Court of Palazzo Barnabò, is scheduled Dolcesuono - Diminished madrigals and sonatas between the 16th and 17th centuries, with Paolo Tognon (dulciana, bass) e Maria Luisa Baldassarri (harpsichord) who will propose a collection of pieces from Arcadelt to Frescobaldi, Trumpet, Ortiz, Palestrina, Caccini and many others;

at 21 hours, returning to the'Auditorium of San Domenico, Enrico Baiano on the harpsichord e Tetraktis Percussion they will be produced in an original alternating concert six contemporary pieces in first execution (from Federico Gardella, Riccardo Panfili, Giorgio Colombo Taccani, Alessandro Solbiati, Leonardo Marino is Caterina Di Cecca) to as many Bachian pages: Absolute music and well-tempered instruments. TO 300 years since the composition of the first book of JS Bach's Well Tempered Clavier (event in collaboration with Amici della Musica di Foligno).

Monday August 29 (9 pm), in the magnificent cloister of the ancient Abbey Benedictine by Sassovivo, the ensemble Soul & Body driven by Gabriele Pro, violin and conductor, invites you to listen to de Corelli's legacy - The Sonatas by Antonio Montanari and Giovanni Mossi;

Tuesday August 30th  (9 pm), in Church of San Giovanni Battista in San Giovanni Profiamma, we will listen to another refined and unmissable program, protagonists of the ancient music ensemble The Casual, founded in 2018 and mainly dedicated to the rediscovery of unpublished Italian music. Their concert Vulnerasti with Deum. Around the Song of Songs explores a series of early seventeenth-century intonations (the work of both famous and little-known composers) of the most used passages in the liturgy, taken from the biblical poem attributed to King Solomon but probably composed by an anonymous poet around the fourth century BC

Wednesday August 31 (9 pm) Signs Baroque back to Foligno, atOratory of the Crucifix, for the concert Antiqua Vox with the mezzo-soprano Lucia Naples and theAcademy Hermans directed by Fabio Ciofini; the sophisticated program unfolds between vocal pieces from the sacred repertoire and instrumental pieces by Vivaldi, Johann Adolf Hasse is Franz Xaver Richter (event in collaboration with the Brunello and Federica Cucinelli Foundation);

Thursday September 1st (9 pm) always a Foligno, in the'Auditorium Santa Caterina, Johannes Skudlik, conductor and organist with a prestigious international career, with Two in one, will offer the opportunity to listen to an unusual instrument, the Double Borgato piano: “The extraordinary instrument handcrafted by master builder Luigi Borgato - explains Silvia Padelli in the room notes - is linked to the centuries-old practice of associating a pedalboard with the keyboard of the piano (and of its ancestors), similarly to what happens in the organ. Finally, Friday 2 September, in the Foligno church of Sant'Agostino, are on the bill Cantate BWV 51 and BWV 32 by Johann Sebastian Bach; protagonists of the concert, Giulia Bolcato (soprano), Mauro Borgioni (low), Rossella Croce (violin and concertmaster), Diego Cal (natural trumpet), Aviad Gershoni (baroque oboe) and theEnsemble Meranbaroque directed by Stephan Kofler.

Organ Concerts

The program of organ concerts is also rich: Monday August 29, in the Church of San Nicolò in Belfiore, with Walter d'Arcangelo; Tuesday August 30th to Pale, in the Church of San Biagio, Andrea Found; Wednesday August 31 Maurizio Manara it's at Rasiglia, in the Church of SS. Apostles Peter and Paul; Thursday September 1st the mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Pallucchie Maurizio Maffezzoli to the organ are a Vescia, in the Church of San Martino; concludes Friday 2 September Giorgio Revelli in Church of San Nicolò in Foligno.

The conferences and the appointment with the cinema

The program of the Baroque Signs festival is completed with cycle of conferences at theOratory of the Crucifix of Foligno (6 pm): the September 3 Silvia Paparelli will talk about the Bach's well-tempered harpsichord on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the composition of the first volume, the September 4th William Tini presents A Princess in the city, a “tassesco” itinerary in the Foligno Baroque between text and image, The September 5th Anna Rita Rati will introduce In the workshop of Giovanni Battista Lalli, and the September 6 Elena Laureti will illustrate The spectacular Baroque tragicomedy by Ludovico Cirocchi Literature, theater, singing, scenography in Foligno.

There is also an appointment dedicated to cinema, L'September 8, with the screening of the film The stuff of dreams of Gianfranco Cabiddu (2016), loosely based on the play The art of comedy by Eduardo De Filippo and its translation into Neapolitan de The storm by William Shakespeare. Played by Sergio Rubini and Ennio Fantastichini in the main roles, the film conquered the David di Donatello 2017 for the best screenplay. The laboratories

Finally, the festival proposes two laboratories dedicated to Baroque song and dance: both take place in Foligno from 7 to 10 September with free registration and attendance: the baroque dance workshop (open to a maximum of 24 participants) will be held by Bruna Gondoni at the Auditorium Santa Caterina, while the baroque singing workshop conducted Gloria Banditelli (maximum 6 participants) will take place at the A. Biagini Music School. The students of the two courses will take part in the final evening of the festival, Baroque Night.

The Baroque Night - closing event

The Baroque night which traditionally closes the festival is organized every year in collaboration with the'Ente Giostra della Quintana di Foligno: a kermesse of great impact, which animates the historic center of the Umbrian city from late afternoon to night concerts in historic buildings, guided visits to museums, parades of masks and a great final show in Piazza della Repubblica which becomes the scene of amazing performances of Baroque art, with dancers, living statues, musicians and acrobats.

L'2022 edition of the Baroque night scheduled for September 10 will open at 18.30 in Court of Palazzo Trinci with the concert of the students participating in the Baroque Singing Workshop, while the wait Parade of allegorical masks of the Carnival of Sant'Eraclio, from Corso Cavour to Piazza della Repubblica, it will start at 10 pm (in collaboration with the voluntary association Carnevale dei Ragazzi S. Eraclio).

At 11 pm in Republic square the great closing show of the 43. Baroque Signs festival, Ecstasy Studies - Fairy, The dance of the elements of ResExtensa Dance Company, with the direction and direction of Elisa Barucchieri who also signs the contemporary choreographies, while the historical choreographies are curated by Brunette Gondoni and the technical direction from Alessandro Catacchio: a “wonderful” performance with dancers, aerialists and acrobats who will revive the multiform Baroque spirit.
