Sacred Vivaldi, between music and art with Vittorio Sgarbi and the Baroque Orchestra of the City of Ferrara
When music dialogues with art. Vittorio Sgarbi and the City of Ferrara Baroque Orchestra celebrate San Giorgio at the Teatro Comunale, with the participation of extraordinary voices and the narration of the most evocative works in the history of art.
The "Sacro Vivaldi" concert will be held on Sunday 23 April at 4 pm at the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, on the occasion of the feast of San Giorgio, patron saint of the city. During the event, the sacred music of Antonio Vivaldi will join the great art through the works chosen by the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi for the occasion. The aim of the initiative is to create a dialogue between music and art that can reveal the human soul interpreted by the Venetian composer.

Vittorio Sgarbi will participate in the event with the Baroque Orchestra of the City of Ferrara, conducted by the violin soloist and conductor Antonio Aiello, and the Accademia Spirito Santo Choir, prepared by Francesco Pinamonti. Together with Sgarbi, there will also be the voices of soprano Carlotta Colombo and alto Chiara Brunello. The production of the show is by the Fondazione Teatro Comunale of Ferrara, with video direction by Domenico Giovannini.

The concert will begin with the Concerto for violin in two choirs for the Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary RV 582, Domine ad adjuvandum me and Festina RV 593, followed by a journey through art with Vittorio Sgarbi, in which he will talk about the most evocative works in history of art, including those of Giovanni Bellini, Rembrandt van Rijn, Francisco de Zurbaran, Botticelli and Annibale Carracci, among others. Subsequently, Kyrie RV 587, String Concerto in G minor RV 156 and Magnificat RV 611 will be performed, interspersed with other stories by the art critic, concluding with a finale of great emotional impact that celebrates the union between art and music.

The feast of the patron saint in Ferrara is an event of great importance. Every year, on April 23, San Giorgio is celebrated with numerous events, including the Palio di Ferrara, the oldest tradition of this kind in the world.

The Palio consists of a horse race between the different districts of the city, each represented by a jockey with the colors and coat of arms of his own district. The tradition of the Palio di Ferrara dates back to the Middle Ages and was born to celebrate the victory of Azzo II against Ezzelino III in 1259. Over the centuries, the event underwent various evolutions, until it became the event we know today. In 1933 the tradition of the Palio was resumed after a long period of interruption and since then it has been held every year on the last Sunday of May.

In addition to the Palio, the feast of San Giorgio in Ferrara is characterized by numerous other events, including concerts, street shows, fairs and markets. The city comes alive with colors and sounds, giving visitors a unique and engaging experience. In this way, the feast of the patron saint becomes not only a moment of religious celebration, but also an opportunity to discover and experience the culture and tradition of Ferrara.
