Rossini & Rossini, Bigonzetti's new ballet, closes the 2022/23 Season of the Rome Opera

To Rome the Opera House closes the rich 2022/23 Season with the new ballet Rossini & Rossini of Mauro Bigonzetti, who after more than ten years returns to the theater where he trained and where he took the first steps of his career.

With this show, new version of his Rossini Cards created in 2004, Bigonzetti does not tell a story, but his personal vision of the composer from Pesaro, inspired by his music, by Magpie to Cinderella, come on  Péchés de vieillesse to Othello. Rossini never wrote for ballet, but «the audience – explains the Roman choreographer – must expect a Rossini show from the point of view of staging and conception. When I say Rossini I mean full of liveliness and irony, full of rhythm and joviality, but also of drama. It is a ballet made of sensations, of emotions, even of memories of youth, of lightness."

An abstract creation, free from any dramaturgical cage, Bigonzetti's choreographic journey is designed for étoiles Alessandra Amato, Rebecca Bianchi, Susanna Save is Alessio Rezza, for principal dancers Claudio Cocino and Michele Satriano and for the entire ballet company of the Lirico Capitoline. «I worked very well with the dancers – adds Bigonzetti –. They are curious about my work which, in the course of creation, has become our work. There was a strong exchange, a lot of understanding and a lot of complicity." The Rome Opera company had already danced Duo Harmless in 2012, a piece taken from Rossini Cards what about Rossini & Rossini it is the starting point.

The music, not only by Gioachino Rossini but also by Benjamin Britten, is performed live byOrchestra of the Opera House directed by Fayçal Karoui, in his debut at Costanzi; to interpret some arias from Cinderella and Othello and excerpts from the Soirées Musical they will be the singers of “Fabbrica” Young Artist Program.

Anna Biagiotti signs the costumes of this new staging, Carlo Cerri the scenes, the lights and, with OOOP Studio, the videos.

Rossini & Rossini – sthe 'premiere' on 28 October has been held due to the strike of the Opera Foundations - it will be on stage at the Costanzi Theater from 29 October to 4 November 2023 for five performances.
