"Season 2022 - 23"
The choreographic version of the Romeo and Juliet by sir Kenneth MacMillan, based on the magnificent score of Sergej Prokofiev, made its Covent Garden debut on 9 February 1965, with Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev in the lead roles. Since that time, the ballet has remained consistently in repertoire in London and in some of the world's most prestigious ballet companies, including American Ballet Theatre.

Among the most beautiful and exciting, the version of Romeo and Juliet of Kenneth MacMillan, in the La Scala repertoire for many years, it has seen unforgettable and passionate protagonists alternate in giving body and soul to the Shakespearean story of the Veronese lovers, whom MacMillan treats with profound attention to human relationships, with lyricism and psychological tension, with moments of humour, the dynamics and emotions of the ballet d'action well present in the score.

In the staging created for La Scala in 2010 by Mauro Carosi is Odette Nicoletti, the ballet is now back on stage seven years after its last performances.
