Rome Chamber Music Festival 2022 - XIX edition
At the Argentina Theater the Festival founded by Robert McDuffie, on stage 42 artists from all over the world
Back on Rome Chamber Music Festival founded by the famous American violinist Robert McDuffie: the XIX edition will take place at Argentina Theater of Rome from 26 to 29 June 2022.

There are four appointments scheduled (all at 8 pm) for an intriguing program that ranges from baroque to contemporary, in a sparkling mix of genres and styles.

On stage they will go up 42 artists - of which 35 young and very young musicians - who will arrive in Rome from the four corners of the world: Canada, China, South Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, the United Kingdom, Slovakia and the United States of America.

Young talents will compete alongside great masters of the international concert scene, such as Robert McDuffie - creator and artistic director of the Festival -, the contralto Sara Mingardo, the violinists Nicholas Mann is Giorgio Fava, the pianist Elena Matteucci, the violist Luca Sanzò, Ivano Zanenghi to the lute, Michael Barrett (synthesizer), Guglielmo Pellarin (horn) and others.

Together, in a stimulating encounter between different generations, they will give sound to the imaginative and always original billboard laid out by Robert McDuffie for the Rome Chamber Music Festival 2022: a path from the baroque of Vivaldi is Haendel to the contemporaneity of Philip Glass and the young woman Valentina Scheidhofen Ciardelli, passing through Schubert is Brahms, Respighi, Stravinsky is Barber, the songs of Broadway and the songs of David Bowie.

Particular theoriginal arrangement commissioned for the two famous sonorous frescoes by Ottorino Respighi dedicated to Pini and the Fountains of Rome - a dutiful homage to the infinite beauty of the Eternal City, as underlined by Maestro McDuffie - and there will be rare pieces such as the Concert 'Dumbarton Oaks' of Stravinsky, or le arias of Haendel dedicated to the Marquis Ruspoli, composed in Rome at the beginning of the 1700s.

A lot of waiting also for the Suite dedicated to David Bowie - piece by the young Italian-German composer and double bass player Valentina Scheidhofen Ciardelli, which will be premiered - and for the now classic Philip Glass, with the concert 'The four American seasons'by him expressly composed for Robert McDuffie and his extraordinary Guarneri del Gesù violin.

The programming of the Rome Chamber Music Festival - now a traditional appointment in the Roman and international musical panorama - has its own figure in the mixture of genres and musical styles, side by side without snobbery, with a typically American spirit. In fact, the Festival has never intended chamber music as a cultural sphere reserved only for refined connoisseurs, but wants to address a wider audience, demonstrating in practice how the distinction between cultured, traditional and pop music can be overcome, thanks to countless points contact.

A spirit that Robert McDuffie himself summarizes best when with his artistic choices he reaffirms, year after year, the need to “break down the idea that classical music is an antique”.

The Rome Chamber Music Festival and young musicians

Young talents, rising stars of international concertism, are particularly numerous in this 19th edition of the Rome Chamber Music Festival thanks to the presence of the many winners of the Young Professional Program, initiative that promotes young professionals of classical music and crossover. Attention to young people has always been part of the festival's 'mission', also intended as a training place that offers a great opportunity for personal, artistic and professional growth to new generations of musicians, rewarding their talent and their merits.

The opportunity to come into contact with well-known masters and artists and the opportunity to study, rehearse and play alongside them, then performing in front of the public in the concerts of the Rome Chamber Festival represents an opportunity of exceptional value for training and the career of young musicians. The transmission of classical knowledge thus enters the third millennium in the close dialogue between Europe and the United States.
