Rome, Contemporary dance triptych at the Opera House
Choreographies by Wheeldon, Montero and Pastor to music by Ezio Bosso, Bach, Ravel

Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Foundation Presenta

"Season 2022-23"
It is dedicated to the charm of contemporary ballet the first appointment /September/ on stage at Rome Opera House after the summer break: thanks to the public success achieved in recent seasons, the Dance triptych, a formula tenaciously desired by the director of the Capitoline ball Eleonora Abbagnato.

The Evening Choreographers Contemporaries is on the calendar from 19 to 24 September and combines three very different works, Within the Golden Hour of Christopher Wheeldon, Chacona of Goyo Montero – two titles that enter the Rome Opera company repertoire for the first time – e Bolero of Krzysztof Pastor, which was staged in Caracalla last July.

The protagonists will be the étoiles Alessandra Amato, Rebecca whites is Alessio Rezza, the first dancers Claudio Cocino is Michele Satriano, the soloists Federica Maine, Marianna Suriano is Giacomo Castellana, and the Corps de Ballet of the Theater of the Opera, five performances are expected.

The show opens with a tribute to the composer and musician Ezio Bosso, who passed away prematurely in 2020, in the month in which he would have turned 52:  Within the Golden Hour of Christopher Wheeldon, created in 2008 for the San Francisco Ballet. In a single act he engages fourteen dancers on the score for strings composed by Ezio Boxwood and on the Movimento andante del Violin Concerto in B flat major RV583 of Vivaldi. The costumes are by Anna Biagiotti, the lights of Peter Mumford.

The second choreography is Chacona, created by Spanish Goyo Montero in 2017 for the Ballet Nacional de Sodre of Montevideo. The music of Bach is performed live by Vincenzo Meat sauce (solo violin), Enrica Roger (piano) e Sergio Sawn off (guitar). The ballet, which features eight main couples, was designed for classical dancers but is performed in a contemporary, physically demanding style. Goyo Montero also signs the sets and costumes, with Verena Hemmerlein, and the lights, with  Nicolas Fischtel.

The evening ends on Bolero of Krzysztof Pastor, created in 2012 on Ravel's masterpiece and which the Capitoline company performed for the first time on the stage of the Baths of Caracalla last July. Pastor uses a rectangular space and entrusts the performance to a man and a woman, a main couple, with a dance troupe that incorporates and releases them. Scenes and costumes are by Tatyana Van Walsum, the lights of Bert Dalhuysen.
