Wednesday January 17, 2024 (8.30 pm) the Chamber Season ofNational Academy of Santa Cecilia offers an event not to be missed: on the stage ofAuditorium Parco della Musica in Rome - Sinopoli Hall the famous one will go up Ébène Quartet, who returns to perform for the historic Roman institution after 9 years of absence.

The prestigious French ensemble presents a journey through great music for string quartet, ranging from Haydn's eighteenth century to Schubert's nineteenth century, to Bartók's twentieth century. The evening opens with Quartet op. 3 of Franz Joseph Haydn, to continue with the Third Quartet of Béla Bartók, composed in 1927, and will end with Quartet no. 15 D 887 of Franz Schubert, the composer's last quartet creation, completed in just ten days on 30 June 1826.

The Ébène Quartet  he revealed himself to the general public thanks to the victory obtained at the ARD Competition in 2004 which launched him on the major stages of the world, from the Berlin Philharmonie and to the Carnegie Hall in New York, where the four musicians will also perform in the coming months. In addition to the traditional repertoire, the Ébène Quartet also stands out in other genres: improvisation on jazz music and popular songs, which began in 1999 as a simple diversion from university studies, has also become its hallmark with several recordings. The instruments used by the ensemble are noteworthy: each musician plays two, Pierre Colombet, a Stradivari violin from 1717 and a Matteo Goffriller from 1736; Gabriel Le Magadure a Pietro Guarneri violin from Venice and an instrument from around 1740 with a Guarneri label, Marie Chilemme  a Stradivari viola from 1734, the 'Gibson', and one by Marcellus Hollmayr (Füssen, 1625), Raphaël Merlin finally he plays a Carlo Tononi cello, (Venice, circa 1720) and a Cremonese instrument by Andrea Guarneri (1666/1680).
