“ Concert Season 2023 -24 ”
Barbara Hannigan, star of classical music acclaimed on the world's major stages, returns toAcademy National of Santa Cecilia in the double role of conductor and soprano: from 18 to 20 April 2024, divided as usual into three concerts, the appointment atAuditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, a highly anticipated event after the successes achieved by the Canadian artist in performances with the Cecilian teams in recent seasons, in Rome and on tour.

Soprano with extraordinary vocal qualities, gifted with a charismatic acting talent, Barbara Hannigan not only is she one of the most original and sought-after voices on the contemporary opera scene, but also a highly regarded orchestra director, invited to many prestigious international podiums, sometimes combining conducting with singing. Among the very rare artists capable of combining /singing and conducting /orchestral conducting with singing, Barbara Hannigan merges with the music in her performances, "speaking" with her whole body - her way of conducting is unmistakable, with gestures at the same time graceful and precise, wandless.

For the concert with the Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, entitled “Music for the theatre”, Hannigan has chosen a lively and original program, which spans three centuries of music: from one of the most entertaining and virtuosic symphonies of Haydn, to the ode of Aaron Copland to 1920s America burlesque and jazz, to the whirlwind world of operetta and ballet music of Jaques Offenbach including the famous cancan, ending with the director herself as singer in the dreamy songs of Kurt Weill.
