“ Concert Season 2023 -24 ”
TO Rome, returns to the podiumNational Academy of Santa Cecilia one of the most authoritative conductors of our time: Semyon Bychkov, protagonist of the concert scheduled on 23, 24 and 25 May 2024 toAuditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone. An event not to be missed, in which you will listen to the monumental Symphony no. 8 of Anton Bruckner, homage to the bicentenary of the birth of the great Austrian composer.

Last symphony completed by Bruckner, L'Octave it was composed between 1884 and 1887 and reworked between 1889 and 1890; dedicated to Emperor Franz Joseph who supported the expenses for the publication, it was performed for the first time on 18 December 1892 at the Musikverein in Vienna by the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Hans Richter. With an Adagio which, for Bruckner, represented the "long journey through one's entire life", Symphony no. 8 is considered almost the spiritual testament of the composer. The 'first', despite some authoritative dissent, was a great success; illustrious colleagues were present in the room, including Johann Strauss II and Hugo Wolf who wrote of that performance: "This Symphony is the creation of a giant and surpasses all the other works of the master in mystical inspiration, abundance of ideas and grandeur."

Semyon Bychkov, a Russian naturalized American conductor, is among the most authoritative names on the international concert scene. Since 2018 he has been Music Director of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, and has been a regular guest of the Santa Cecilia seasons since 1992. Bychkov conducts the most important orchestras in the world, holds the honorary chair of conducting at the Royal Academy of Music and is was named “Conductor of the Year” in 2015 by the International Opera Awards.
