Understanding Music 2022 – 23
To Ravenna the Christmas musical event is back with the Young Musicians European Orchestra: Friday December 16, 2022 (9 pm) will be the Alighieri Theater the elegant frame of the Ravenna-Bethlehem Christmas Concert, second round of the season Understanding Music edited by Emilia Romagna Concerts.

The young team YMEO extension – the average age of the musicians is 23 – on this occasion it will be led by the baton of Julius Arnofi, 35-year-old artistic director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Florence.

The Christmas concert in this edition you see the participation of two very prestigious soloists, one of the best known on the international scene, the Iranian pianist Ramin Bahrami and the flautist from Imola Massimo Mercelli. Together they will perform the most famous of Brandenburg concerts of Johann Sebastian Bach, on Fifth (BWV 1050), which will close the evening.

The first part of the program will instead be dedicated to the music of Antonio Vivaldi, with which six very young soloists will compete: opening, two rarely performed compositions, the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in D minor (soloist Marco Mauro Moruzzi) and the Concerto for two cellos and orchestra in G minor (soloists Marco Mauro Moruzzi is Raffaella Cardaropoli). To follow, again by Vivaldi, the famous Concerto in B minor for 4 violins and orchestra (piece much loved by Bach, who in fact made a transcription for 4 harpsichords and orchestra), soloists Paul Tagliamento, Federica Tranzillo, Lodovico Parravicini is Orest Smovzh.

The Christmas concert – says the Councilor for Culture Fabio Sbaraglia – is one of the most awaited Christmas events by the citizens of Ravenna. A tradition, which this year also sees the involvement of students from local schools, which has been renewed for many years now by combining music with important opportunities for solidarity and which always stands out for the involvement of new and talented young musicians " .

“After 2019 – underlines the President of Erconcerti Silvana Lugaresi – finally we will be able to return to Bethlehem, where the Concert will be prepared and performed starting from 9 December next in the Church of Santa Caterina, at the Children's Baby Hospital and in the Casa del Fanciullo in Bethlehem. And before the Ravenna performance, other performances and open rehearsals will be performed in Cotignola, Imola, Cervia and Forlì. There will therefore be a few thousand people who will attend our Christmas concerts”.

At the end of the concert children will perform of the Mordani-Novello schools (director Catia Gori), M.Montanari school (director Chiara Farolfi) and the students of the schools of Tredozio and Modigliana (director Monica Monduzzi) with three Christmas songs.

Also, an important charity initiative will be held on the occasion of the concert: theMallow Association of Ukrainians of Ravenna organize one fundraiser to donate "Christmas Lights", or light generators, to Mikolaiev hospitals and of Cherson.
