Ravello Festival 2023 • 71st edition
The festival 'between sky and sea' on the Amalfi Coast looks to the tutelary deity Wagner, alongside the great symphonic appointments opera is back on the bill; a Chopin marathon, jazz events, tributes to Sinatra and the Neapolitan eighteenth century are also scheduled

Great music set in one of the most spectacular panoramas in the world: sul Belvedere of Villa Rufolo, suspended in the unrivaled scenery of the Amalfi Coast, from 2 July to 30 August 2023  come back on Ravello Festival, one of the oldest and most prestigious Italian music festivals, arrived at 71st edition.

Directed by Alessio Vlad, the Ravello Festival 2023 starts again from his tutelary deity Richard Wagner, a key figure from whom everything originated and in whose name the 'City of Music' has become famous throughout the world. Alongside the Wagnerian concert that traditionally opens the series, the return of the work is of absolute importance with the complete execution of the The Rhine Gold (Das Rheingold), 26 years after the memorable Parsifal directed by Gergiev with Placido Domingo.

The 71st Ravello Festival, organized by Ravello Foundation with the support of Campania Region and from Ministry of Culture, he proposes 24 appointments with conductors, soloists and orchestras of great prestige, including some debuting at the festival. The billboard consists of 9 symphony concerts, a piano marathon in 10 stages dedicated to Chopin, 4 jazz concerts and theclosing tribute to Frank Sinatr25 years after his disappearance, with productions mostly created specifically for the Ravello Festival or in any case exclusively in Italy.
It starts on July 2, 2023 with the Inaugural concert entirely dedicated to Wagner, a new production starring theORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Wien directed by Andrey Boreyko;

the following week, Sunday July 9, the first of the exclusives for Italy is scheduled, with theLuxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra guided by the wand of Gustavo Gimeno, and soloist one of the most acclaimed pianists of the moment, Yuja Wang;

in the middle of the month, an unmissable weekend, with theOrchestra of the Academy of the Teatro alla Scala which returns to Ravello on July 14 under the direction of Fabio Luisi, followed by the director's debut Andrés Orozco-Estrada and one of the most prestigious German orchestras, i Munchner Philharmoniker joined by the piano solo of Lucas Sternath (15th of July) and from that of the orchestral ensemble specialized in historically informed interpretations Tomato and its director Maxim Emelyanychev (July 16);

Saturday July 29, a tribute to the great Neapolitan school of the 18th century with the Neapolitan Chapel directed by Antonio Florio and the voices of Valentina Varriale, soprano, and baritone Mauro Borgioni;

L'11 August the expected returns Concert at dawn, one of the most popular events of the Ravello Festival: theG. Verdi Philharmonic Orchestra of Salerno with the very young and very talented director Riccardo Bisatti.

Don't miss the main event of the 71st Ravello Festival on Sunday August 20, when on the Belvedere of Villa Rufolo after more than a quarter of a century acomplete work of Richard Wagner, The Rhine Gold performed in the form of a concert and proposed in an unpublished philological version integrated in a project involving various European institutions. They will be great protagonists there Dresdner Festspielorchester joined to Concert Cologne with Kent Nagano on the podium.

The 25 August the last symphonic appointment will see on stage theHR-Sinfonieorchester of Frankfurt under the leadership of Alain Altinoglu, also making his debut in Ravello.

From 4 to 6 August will then take place Chopin Marathon, which in 10 stages, entrusted to nine Italian pianists of different generations and backgrounds, will present practically all of their production for solo piano. They will perform between the Gardens of Villa Rufolo and the Church of Santa Maria a Gradillo Leonora Armellini, Claudius Berra, Elia Cecino, Pietro De Maria, Andrea Lucchesini, Benedetto Lupo, Gabriele Strata, Alessandro Taverna, Alexander Villalva.

As is now the tradition of the Ravello Festival, there is no shortage of jazz concerts of international scope: four events in 5 days articulate a real review that will take to the stage of Villa Rufolo Brad Mehldau with his historic Trio (July 21); Stefano Bollani is Gonzalo Rubalcaba (July 22nd); the New York Voices accompanied by Salerno Jazz Orchestra (23 July) and one of the most influential voices on the international scene, that of Kurt Elling (July 25).

The August 30th the Ravello Festival 2023 closes with an event homage to Frank Sinatra on the 25th anniversary of his death: protagonist of the concert, the tenor Vittorio Grigolo in the unedited guise of a pop singer, accompanied byG. Verdi Philharmonic Orchestra of Salerno and from Salerno Jazz Orchestra on a journey through the most famous songs of The Voice; the new production takes advantage of the collaboration of Demos Morselli is Tony renis.
