The Ravello Festival, born in 1953, however, has its roots in a series of previous initiatives that make it one of the oldest musical events in Italy. Born as a Wagnerian festival, it has gradually expanded its programming by entering the great international concert circuit, in particular with the presence of famous symphony orchestras. Curated by the Ravello Foundation, the Festival is based in Villa Rufolo where the spectacular stage overlooking the sea is set up.
Gore Vidal, “often, when the orchestra plays Wagner, the full moon rises from the mountains whose contours resemble a dragon with its head gently reclining on the beach, towards the east, while the little birds of Ravello, musically well educated after all these years , they make the counterpoint from above the pines.”
