Pietrasanta in Concert - XV Edition
"The return" - Great music returns to the small Athens of Versilia

Appointment with the stars of classical music for “Pietrasanta in Concerto”, the festival which from 22 July to 1 August will transform the “little Athens of Versilia” into a summer capital of great music. Now in its fifteenth edition, the review conceived and directed by Michael Guttman, internationally renowned violinist and conductor, has ten concerts in store with great musicians from all over the world.

The disruptive violinist will be present for the first time at the festival Daniel Hope, and pianists will be among the protagonists Katia & Marielle Labèque, Andrea Lucchesini, Alexei Botvinov, Roberto Prosseda and Alessandra Ammara, Karin Lechner, Boris Berezovsky, Bruno Fontaine. Guests also the cello star Jing Zhao, the clarinetist Pierre Génisson and the flutist Giuseppe Nova. The return of Andrea Griminelli for the grand finale of the show together with Moscow soloists directed by Yuri Bashmet.

“We have never left Pietrasanta, even in 2020, when traveling was so difficult - explains Guttman - This year we are back with an even richer program, with wonderful Italian and foreign musicians. And when the music returns, life returns! ”.

From Mozart to Rachmaninov, from Debussy to Schubert passing through Glass, Bizet, Verdi, Schumann, Chopin, Grieg, Beethoven: among the elegant and evocative marble columns of the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, seat of the concerts, the great classics will be listened to, but also the new scores by world-famous contemporary composers such as the concert for violin and cello by Airat Ichmouratov and the music of the composer Jorge Bosso that “Pietrasanta in Concerto” will present in the world premiere.

Pianists in particular will take the limelight of this edition: starting with the extraordinary piano duo of the French sisters Katia & Marielle Labèque (July 23), ad Andrea Lucchesini (29 July), world-famous Tuscan pianist, guest of the festival for the first time, from Alexei Botvinov, coming from the Ukrainian city of Odessa (22 July) a Roberto Prosseda and Alessandra Ammara (24 July), engaged together in a concert entirely dedicated to Beethoven, to the awaited return of the overwhelming Argentine musician Karin Lechner (July 28) and the famous Russian pianist Boris Berezovsky (July 30) to Bruno Fontaine, pianist, composer and arranger (July 26).

But the pianists will not be the only ones to tread the festival scenes: the great flutist will also go on stage Andrea Griminelli for the closing concert of the review (1 August), the star of the cello Jing Zhao (22, 24, 28 July and 1 August), the clarinetist Pierre Génisson (26 and 28 July) e Giuseppe Nova (28 July) among the most representative Italian flutists of his generation.

Among the novelties, the presence of Daniel Hope (31 July), violinist with a disruptive and unconventional personality, making his debut at the festival, where he will offer a concert of baroque music with the Air Ensemble. And “Pietrasanta in Concerto” will also be a showcase for chamber orchestras like the Brussels Chamber Orchestra (25 and 28 July) and I. Moscow soloists directed by Yuri Bashmet (July 30 and August 1).

Also noteworthy is the tribute to Astor Piazzolla in the centenary of his birth, with a one-of-a-kind concert, composed and arranged by Jorge Bosso, and which will be presented on July 25 in first ever performance. A score full of suggestions, which in the Argentine sounds will lead the public on a journey from the Pampa to the Naples of Diego Armando Maradona. The protagonist of this tribute to Piazzolla will be the duo formed by Michael Guttman and Jing Zhao himself.

As is the tradition of the festival, the concert with free admission in homage to the city of Pietrasanta (July 26). It will take place for this edition in the splendid main square, against the backdrop of the Cathedral of San Martino. The protagonists of the “swing” concert will be Pierre Génisson clarinet, Bruno Fontainand piano, Fabrice Moreau battery e Benoît Dunoyer de Segonzac contrabass.

Pietrasanta, the “little Athens” of Versilia

Pietrasanta is known all over the world as the capital of artistic marble processing. It has earned the nickname of Little Athens thanks to the concentration of artists who live and work, permanently or temporarily, in the city.
