Palazzetto Bru Zane
Management: Center de musique romantique française
The Palazzetto Bru Zane – Center de musique romantique française has the vocation of promoting the rediscovery and international diffusion of the French musical heritage of the great nineteenth century (1780-1920), dealing with both chamber music and the symphonic, sacred and lyrical repertoire, without forget the "light" genres that characterized the French spirit in the 19th century (chanson, opéra-comique, operetta).

Near the Basilica dei Frari, the Zane casino was built between 1695 and 1697, next to Palazzo Zane, home of the family of the same name. Separating the two buildings was a lush French garden. Palazzo Zane was completely renovated in 1682 by the baroque architect Baldassarre Longhena, commissioned by Domenico Zane, who died before the end of the works. Domenico left his assets, including a collection of paintings and valuable books, to his nephew Marino Zane, who, to preserve and enrich the inheritance, decided to build what later became the Palazzetto Bru Zane.

The construction was entrusted to the same studio as Longhena, but the architect Antonio Gaspari initially assumed responsibility and, following his death, his assistant Domenico Rossi, who decided to surround himself with other artists. The interior decoration was entrusted to the Swiss plasterer Abbondio Stazio and the sculptor Andrea Brustolon, who, among other things, created the engraving of the wooden balustrade facing the ballroom. The frescoes were, in later times, attributed to Sebastiano Ricci.

The building is protected by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and was the subject of study, in 2006, by the Superintendence for Architectural and Landscape Heritage of Venice and the Lagoon.
