Ottavio Dantone, conductor and harpsichordist affirmed in the most prestigious international contexts, is a profound connoisseur of the executive practice of the Baroque period.

He has been Artistic and Music Director of the Byzantine Academy of Ravenna since 1996, Chief Conductor of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento since 2021, and has been appointed Music Director of the Innsbruck Early Music Festival as of September 2023.

After graduating from the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan in organ and harpsichord, Ottavio Dantone he embarked on a concert career at a very young age, soon drawing the attention of critics as one of the most expert and gifted harpsichordists of his generation.
 
In 1985 he obtained the basso continuo prize at the international competition in Paris and in 1986 he was awarded at the international competition in Bruges. He was the first Italian to have obtained such acknowledgments at an international level in the harpsichord field.
 
A profound connoisseur of the performance practice of the Baroque period, Ottavio Dantone has been the Artistic and Musical Director of the Byzantine Academy of Ravenna since 1996, with which he has collaborated since 1989. Since 2021 he has been Principal Conductor of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento and has been appointed Music Director of the Innsbruck Early Music Festival from September 2023.
 
To his activity as soloist and leader of chamber groups, Dantone has gradually added that of conductor, extending his repertoire to the classical and romantic periods. His debut in opera direction took place in 1999 in Ravenna with the first modern performance of Giuseppe Sarti's “Giulio Sabino” with the Byzantine Academy.
 
His career has taken him to the most important theaters and festivals around the world including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Glyndebourne Festival, Teatro Réal in Madrid, Zurich Opera, Dresden Semperoper, Salzburg Festival, Bayerische Staatsoper, Carnegie Hall NY, Opera National de Paris, Staatoper Berlin, Rai Symphony Orchestra, La Scala Philharmonic, London Proms, etc.
 
As a soloist and as a conductor he has worked for the most important record companies: Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, Naïve and Harmonia Mundi, obtaining prestigious prizes and awards from international critics.
 
In 2020 he was awarded by the President of the Italian Republic the honor of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Republic. Since 2022 he has been an Academician of Santa Cecilia.
