Sanremo Symphony Orchestra
Born in 1905, the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest and most prestigious Italian musical realities. It is part of the State-recognized Concert Orchestral Institutions (ICO) since their establishment in 1967, and is a Cultural Institution of Regional Interest in Liguria. Since 2003 it has become a Foundation.


The Sanremo Symphony Orchestra opens the year with the first edition of Baroque Music Festival which will take place from 15 January to 10 February 2022 in some lesser known places in the historic center of Sanremo, and presents five concerts with conductors and soloists specialized in the Baroque repertoire. The Orchestra is also involved in the 72nd edition of the Italian Song Festival.

In its long history, theSanremo Symphony Orchestra has seen numerous illustrious conductors alternating on the podium, including Sir John Barbirolli, Daniel Oren, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, Piero Bellugi, Yuri Ahronovich, and has collaborated with many of the most acclaimed international soloists, such as pianists Lazar Berman, Roberto Cappello , Aldo Ciccolini, Andreij Gavrilov, the violinists Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, Igor Oistrakh, Shlomo Mintz, the flutists Severino Gazzelloni, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and among the voices, Raina Kabaivanska, Katia Ricciarelli and Mario del Monaco.

Carlo Farina (artistic and stable director from 1953 to 1979, architect of the rebirth and development of the "Symphony" up to the highest levels), Evelino Pidò (1986-1987), Stefan Anton Reck (1990- 1993). Among the Artistic Directors we remember Roberto Hazon. Alberto Zedda, Bruno Santori (2010-2015).

Since 2015 the role of Artistic Director and Permanent Director has been entrusted to M ° Giancarlo De Lorenzo.

The Symphony Orchestra presents a wide range of concerts every year, the main venue of which is the Opera House of the Casino of Sanremo. Since 2003 he has participated in the Italian Song Festival (Sanremo Festival).

Attentive to the enhancement of young talents, the Sanremo Symphony is endowed with a great versatility that allows it to perform both the classical repertoire, as well as the romantic, modern and contemporary one.

In order to spread the art and musical culture to an ever wider audience, the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra combines programs from the classical repertoire with others of more immediate usability, dedicated to the Sanremo Festival, to Musicals, to soundtracks, etc. .

In the same vein, the Foundation also brings its musical proposal to places of historical and artistic interest such as the Civic Museum of Sanremo, Forte di Santa Tecla, Villa Ormond (with thematic evenings on music and flowers), the churches included in the Music Review in the Churches , the Roman Theater of Ventimiglia.

Since the summer of 2021, the Symphony has brought its summer season to the Alfano Auditorium, reopened after 15 years and destined to become one of the top locations for musical events in Sanremo.

The Sanremo Symphony Orchestra also offers an intense activity dedicated to schools with a varied educational offer.
