Homage to Palladio - 24th edition
András Schiff returns to the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza for the 2022 edition of the Festival
It comes to the 24. edition the Festival Homage to Palladio, on stage from 28 April to 1 May 2022 to the Olympic Theater and to Basilica of S. Felice of Vicenza, protagonist the teacher András Schiff with her Andrea Barca chapel.

There will be four evenings of Homage to Palladio 2022, for a festival that finally resumes its course after the extensive changes last year and the cancellation of the 2020 edition due to the pandemic.

And it is precisely the program conceived for 2020 and never staged, the one that András Schiff will propose to the public in what he calls "the most beautiful theater in the world", the Olimpico in Vicenza designed by Andrea Palladio.

There are four composers on which the programming hinges, Bach, Brahms, Schumann is Mendelssohn, authors that the Hungarian conductor and pianist will also present through lesser known masterpieces.

The Festival Homage to Palladio 2022 inaugurates the April 28 (20.30) to Olympic Theater with the piano recital by András Schiff. The evening opens with the Capriccio about the distance of his beloved brother, piece by a Bach not yet twenty, to continue with the Three Intermezzi op. 117 of Brahms, the Davidsbündlertänze op. 6 of Schumann, the Variations sérieuses op. 54 of Mendelssohn and conclude with another piece of Bach, the Partita in D major BWV 828.

The April 29 (always at 20.30) we move to Basilica of San Felice for the usual appointment with sacred music, this year entirely dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn. We will listen to the Lobgesang choral symphony op. 52, the Song of praise for solos, choir, orchestra and organ on texts taken from Sacred Scripture. With the Andrea Barca chapel, the choral ensemble Schola San Rocco, and the solo voices of the soprano Sylvia Schwartz, of the mezzo-soprano Ema Nikolovska and the tenor Werner Güra. Directs András Schiff, choir master Francesco Erle.

Saturday April 30 the Festival returns to Olympic Theater with a varied and engaging program: we start with the Concerto for two pianos in C minor BWV 1060 of Bach (on the second piano, the young German pianist of Iranian origin Schaghajegh Nosrati), to reach the Liebeslieder-Walzer for vocal quartet and four-handed piano by Brahms (with Sylvia Schwartz, Ema Nikolovska is Werner Güra the bass Robert Holl). The evening continues with theOverture op. 21, lo Joke and the Nocturne op. 61 from the A Midsummer Night's Dream of Mendelssohn, to close with the Quintet for piano and strings op. 44 of Schumann. With the orchestra Andrea Barca chapel, direction and piano András Schiff.

The May 1st, great closing concert of the Festival Homage to Palladio 2022, always in the extraordinary setting of Olympic Theater: in the poster, the Concerto for two pianos in C minor BWV 1062 of Bach, from Robert Schumann L'Andante and Variations for two pianos, two cellos and horn op. 46 and the lieder cycle Frauenliebe und leben op. 42, and finally the Symphony n. 3 of Brahms. On stage, the Andrea Barca chapel, András Schiff to the direction and piano, the pianist Schaghajegh Nosrati, the soprano Sylvia Schwartz.

The Olympic Theater of Vicenza

The Olympic Theater And Unesco heritage since 1994 together with the other Palladian works of Vicenza. The Olimpico, the oldest covered theater of the modern era, was commissioned to Andrea Palladio fromOlympic Academy, of which he himself was part, for the representation of classical comedies. Designed in 1580, the architect could not see it built, in fact he died in August of the same year. The work, which had already begun, was continued by his son Silla who was based on his father's notes and ended in 1584, limited to the auditorium complete with loggia and the proscenium. Another great architect from Vicenza was called to create the wooden scenes, of great effect for their perspective illusionism and attention to detail. Vincenzo Scamozzi, and in March of 1585 the Olympic Theater could be inaugurated.
