Closes in the sign of Richard Wagner there Opera Season 2021/22 of the theater San Carlo of Naples: is Tristan und Isolde the last title on the program, debuting on Thursday October 27 (7 pm) with replicas until November 5th.

The German director will go up on the podium Constantin Trinks, expert in the Wagnerian repertoire, and for the first time at the Neapolitan Opera.

Like the conductor, the artists of the singing company are also specialized in this kind of repertoire: in the role of Isolde, the famous Swedish soprano Nina Stemme, who played him on major international stages (to his credit also a recording directed by Antonio Pappano with Placido Domingo as Tristano), in the part of Tristano, Stuart Skelton, Australian “Heldentenor” who opened the 2016 season of the Metropolitan Opera of New York with Nina Stemme in the same Wagnerian opera.

King Marke of Cornwall will be played by the well-known Low German René Pape, Brian Mulligan will be Kurnewal e Okka von der Damerau will give Brangäne a voice. Complete the poster Gabriele Ribis (Melot / Steuermann) e Klodjan Kaçani (A shepherd and sailor's voice). The Choir Master is José Luis Basso.

The show directed by Lluìs Pasqual, here taken from Caroline Lang, is the winner of the XXIV edition of the Abbiati prize for the sets and costumes of Ezio Frigerio is Franca Squarciapino, awarded - reads the motivation - “For the visual sign and the extraordinary accuracy of the realization of scenes, pictorial quotations and costumes”.

Tristan und Isolde, considered the maximum expression of Wagnerian innovations, was composed between 1857 and 1859 and was staged for the first time the June 10, 1865 to the Nationaltheater of Munich.

Action in three acts on libretto by Wagner himself taken from the epic poem of the same name Godfrey of Strasbourg, Tristan und Isolde it is the work in which destiny and love coincide in an absolute way and the death of the two protagonists is transfigured into the supreme fulfillment of love.
