Mezzo-soprano of international renown, Monica Bacelli has distinguished herself for a marked musical and scenic personality which has led her to be a reference interpreter.

She made her debut very young and embarked on a brilliant career in the main theaters (from Scala to the Staatsoper in Vienna, from Covent Garden to the San Francisco Opera) and concert institutions (from the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia to the Philharmonie in Berlin) collaborating with the major conductors of orchestra and directors.

Monica Bacelli graduated with Maria Vittoria Romano and Donato Martorella at the Pescara Conservatory, won the Belli Competition in Spoleto which led her to debut at the Experimental Theater as Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro and Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte. From this moment on, his career has developed in the main Italian and international theaters (Scala, Vienna Staatsoper, Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera) and in the main concert institutions (National Academy of Santa Cecilia, Philharmonie of Berlin, Concertgebouw) , collaborating with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Zubin Metha, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Antonio Pappano and Simon Rattle.
Winner of the Abbiati prize, her extensive repertoire includes roles by Mozart (Idamante in Idomeneo, Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Sesto in La clemenza di Tito) and Rossini, but extends from Baroque opera (the Monteverdian trilogy Orpheus, The return of Ulysses to his homeland and The coronation of Poppea, Cavalli's Calisto, Tamerlano, Alcina and Handel's Julius Caesar) to French opera from the 19th and 20th centuries (Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Werther, Don Quichotte, L'Enfant et les sortilèges).
Recognized interpreter of contemporary musical theater, she has been entrusted with numerous first performances, including Marco Tutino's lyrical monologue Le bel indifférent and the protagonist role in Antigone by Ivan Fedele which inaugurated the seventieth edition of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival.
Her collaboration was particularly close with Luciano Berio, who wrote for her the roles of Marina in Outis (Teatro alla Scala, 1996) and Orvid in Cronaca del posto and the piece Altra voce, presented at the Salzburg Festival in 1999 and then performed in New York, Tokyo, Paris and Rome. Dello Berio has also interpreted the Folksongs with the Filarmonica della Scala, with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, with the Berliner Philarmoniker and at the Proms in London.
