For the fourth appointment of the Symphony Season 2023 -24 returns to the podium Teatro alla Scala Daniele Gatti, that Monday 22, Wednesday 24 is Saturday April 27, faces the famous Symphony n. 9 of Gustav Mahler, one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time. It was with this work that Gatti made his debut with the Filarmonica Scaligera in the spring of 2006.

The Bohemian composer's last monumental symphonic work, the Ninth was written between 1909 and 1910, in a difficult period of Mahler's life, who had recently lost his beloved daughter Maria Anna, and whose health was due to a serious problem heart was rapidly deteriorating. Pervaded by the premonition of death, the score marks one of the highest testimonies of the composer, who died in May 1911 without ever having been able to listen to his last Symphony, which was performed for the first time on 26 June 1912 under the direction of Bruno Walter.

Among the greatest symphonic masterpieces in the history of music, Symphony no. 9 in D major. by Mahler also represents the final moment of the Western symphonic tradition, in the meaning and form it had had for more than a century and a half.
