Michele Spotti has been appointed Music Director of the Opéra de Marseille from the 2023/24 Season; he is Music Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Benevento. Active in both opera and symphony, he has directed important productions in highly prestigious theaters and festivals, collaborating with leading artists and orchestras.

Michele Spotti, born in 1993, is one of the greatest talents of the new generation of conductors.
 
After graduating first in violin and later in conducting under the guidance of Daniele Agiman at the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory in Milan, he continued his studies at the Haute École de musique in Geneva, at the Academy of the Menhuin Festival in Gstaad with Neeme Järvi and Gennady Rozhdestvensky and in Italy with Gianandrea Noseda, Gianluigi Gelmetti and Daniele Gatti.
 
At the age of twenty he made his debut at the Mancinelli Theater in Orvieto conducting The Marriage of Figaro and in 2016 Alberto Zedda wants him as his assistant in the production ofHermione by Rossini at the Opéra de Lyon.
 
His recent engagements include his Tokyo debut with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and Juan Diego Flórez; the new productions of Don Carlos at the Theater Basel directed by Vincent Huguet, di Guillaume Tell which opened the Marseille Opera Season 2021/2022, and de The fille du régiment at the Donizetti Opera 2021 Festival. He has also directed Cinderella at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Monaco, in the historic production of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle; La Belle Hélène Offenbach signed by Barrie Kosky at the Komische Oper in Berlin; the final concert of the ROF 2021 with the Rai National Symphony Orchestra and Juan Diego Flórez; The Traviata in Palermo with Pretty Yende in the title role; The elixir of love at the Petruzzelli Theater in Bari; the Stabat mater by Rossini with the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Last June he made his debut in Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées on the podium of the Orchester national d'Ile-de-France for a concert produced by Radio Classique and in July he conducted Beatrice of Tenda at the Valle d'Itria Festival.
 
He has directed numerous new productions, including Offenbach's Barbe-bleue under the direction of Laurent Pelly at the Opéra de Lyon (in July 2021 the DVD by Opus Arte was released, which obtained the Diapason D'or); The secret marriage of Cimarosa, directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi at the Valle d'Itria Festival and, also in Martina Franca, Richard Strauss's Il borghese gentiluomo which inaugurated the festival in 2020; at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro he conducted Il signor Bruschino (also resumed in 2022 at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna) and Il viaggio a Reims; Adina and the world premiere of Andrew Synnott's The Kitchen at the Wexford Opera Festival, both directed by Rosetta Cucchi; Don Pasquale in Montpellier; So do all of them at the Staatsoper in Hanover.
 
Recently appointed Music Director of the Benevento Philharmonic Orchestra, Michele Spotti also has an intense symphonic activity in Italy, where he was on the podium, among others, of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Teatro alla Scala, with which he made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in 2021; the RAI National Symphony Orchestra; of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, of the Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo; of the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin and of the Orchestra of Padua and of the Veneto, which he conducted on the occasion of the inauguration of the 2022/23 season.
 
Among the other commitments of the 2022/23 season: the debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart with the new production of the Elixir of Love signed by Anika Rutkofsky; he will return to direct the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic; he will make his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper where he will conduct La fille du régiment under the direction of Laurent Pelly. In 2023 he will return to Theater Basel with Rigoletto (directed by Vincent Huguet) and to the Teatro Massimo in Palermo with Don Pasquale signed by Damiano Michieletto. It will also debut on the podium of the Orchestra della Toscana and at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia with a new production by Ernani.
