Season 2023/24
It opens with a full house Season 2023/24 ofRai National Symphony Orchestra, which on the double opening night features the now legendary Martha Argerich and the famous director Fabio Luisi.

The concert is scheduled for Thursday October 26, 2023 (8.30 pm) atRai Auditorium 'Arturo Toscanini' in Turin and it will be sent on Rai5 live broadcast from 9.15pm and live on Radio3; live repeat in Turin, Friday October 27 to 8pm. Tickets for both evenings sold out in just a few hours.

Martha Argerich he returns to play with the Rai Orchestra 4 years after his last presence on the Turin stage, where he performed a memorable First Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Liszt; for this new evening the 82-year-old Argentine pianist has chosen a cornerstone of Viennese classicism: the Concerto for piano and orchestra n. 1 op. 15 of Ludwig van Beethoven. Composed between 1796 and 1797, it was performed for the first time in Prague in 1798 with the composer himself at the piano.

In the second part of the evening Fabio Luisi – who is Director Emeritus of the Rai Orchestra, and who holds important positions at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo – plays the Symphony no. 5 in E minor op. 64 of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The composer wrote the piece in a short time, between May and October 1888, in a moment of sadness and depression following his first tour in Europe, where he had conducted his works in Berlin, Paris, London and Prague. The Symphony was first performed in St. Petersburg on November 5 of that year, conducted by the same composer.

“It's the first time I'm on stage next to Martha Argerich – he commented Fabio Luisi presenting the inauguration of the season – with a program obviously chosen by her, popular and extraordinary at the same time, the concert for piano and orchestra n. 1 by Beethoven. She is one of the most important musicians in the world, a true legend, it will be a special evening."
