Classical Music in Italy

La Traviata "of mirrors"
Perhaps the most representative and iconic title of the Sferisterio productions of the last thirty years. Conceived in 1992 by Josef Svoboda and Henning Brockhaus, it will be rearranged with new costumes.

Arena Sferisterio Presents

Melodrama in three acts. Music by Giuseppe Verdi, libretto by Francesco Maria Piave from the drama La dame aux camélias by Alexandre Dumas son. Set up by the Arena Sferisterio Association, winner of the 1993 Abbiati Prize.

Program

The second opera title of the Macerata Opera Festival is the now classic “Traviata degli specchi”, created precisely for the Sferisterio in the “distant” 1992 and then staged all over the world.
The first performance took place at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice on 6 March 1853. The beginning of the opera pleased the public, but from the second act onwards it began to wane and the overall outcome, according to Verdi himself, was a fiasco.
