Municipal Theater of Bologna Presents

IS La Boheme by Puccini signed by Graham Vick, who suddenly passed away on July 17, the opera being staged at the Comunale of Bologna these days. The next performances will be dedicated to the director

Heart of the summer programming of the Emilian Opera, the staging marked the return of the public to the theater last June 29, after being stopped in February 2020 due to the health emergency. The production (the debut three years ago) won the Award " Abbiati ”as the best show of 2018, and with its biting and innovative staging it has already become a classic.

Under the direction of Francesco Ivan Ciampa - making his debut on the podium of the TCBO Orchestra - Puccini's masterpiece will remain on stage for a total of 12 performances until 12 August.

The show initially scheduled for last December, for "L'Estate del Bibiena 2021" is staged in a revised version in compliance with current regulations, both from the directorial point of view and as regards the orchestra and choir staff that have been specially reduced.

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) imposes himself on the general public thanks to the intuition of the publisher Giulio Ricordi who sees in the composer from Lucca the genius on which to invest and to which he supports the librettists Giuseppe Giacosa (1847-1906) and Luigi Illica (1857- 1919). From this "dream team" were born works such as La bohème, Tosca and Madama Butterfly, works that consecrate Puccini as the only heir of Verdi and that still today make millions of people flock to theaters all over the world.

La Boheme
Opera in four paintings

Music by Giacomo Puccini

libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica
from the novel Scènes de la vie de bohème by Henry Murger

First performance Teatro Regio di Torino 1896

A glimpse of the life of Parisian youth at the end of the nineteenth century, La bohème by Giacomo Puccini made its debut at the Teatro Regio in Turin on February 1, 1896, on the podium the 29-year-old Arturo Toscanini. Puccini looks at the last Verdi, outlining a dramaturgically and musically very free structure, with an easy succession between arias and recitatives that allows him to outline a picture of profound realism in which four boys are protagonists struggling with the inexorable fleetingness of time.

The opera is staged for a total of 12 performances: after the first performance on 29 June, it will be repeated on 30 June, 01, 20, 21, 22 July and 04, 05, 06, 10, 11, 12 August 2021 , always at 20.00
