Inaugurations: the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma opens with Julius Caesar by Giorgio Battistelli as a world premiere

Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Foundation Presenta

The Rome Opera House inaugurates the 2021-22 opera season with a new opera, commissioned to one of the greatest contemporary composers, Giorgio Battistelli. A choice that breaks the mold, unusual and courageous: the November 20 will be staged at the Teatro Costanzi in first ever performance, Julius Caesar on an English libretto by Ian Burton based on the tragedy of the same name William Shakespeare, directed by Robert Carsen and the musical direction of Daniele Gatti.

Giorgio Battistelli, Ian Burton and Robert Carsen have matured a long and fruitful artistic collaboration, in fact they meet for the third time with this new work, after Richard III is Co2.

Sara Daniele Gatti, on the podium of the Orchestra dell'Opera, to interpret and conduct the new score which also marks his dismissal as musical director of the Capitoline Opera, while the Chorus will be prepared by Roberto Gabbiani.

The scenes of the new staging are entrusted to Radu Boruzescu, the costumes ai Luis F. Carvalho and the lights are taken care of by Carsen in collaboration with Peter Van Praet.

The large international cast - which counts thirteen performers - is of great level with Clive Bayley in the role of Caesar, Elliot Madore in that of Brutus and Julian Hubbard who will impersonate Cassius.

The show, after the premiere on November 20, will remain on stage with five performances until November 28.
