"65. Festival of the Two Worlds of Spoleto - 2022"
The Closing concert in the spectacular Piazza del Duomo of Spoleto, an event that annually seals the Two Ways Festival, will again be directed by Antonio Pappano, on the podium ofOrchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia. With them Barbara Hannigan, already protagonist of other events of the festival in the double role of soprano and conductor.

The 65. edition of the Festival of the Two Worlds will close on Sunday July 10, 2022 (7.30 pm) with an all-American program: at the opening of the concert, Knoxville: Summer of 1915 of Samuel Barber,, with the lead voice of Barbara Hannigan. It is a rarely performed composition, a work of great beauty pervaded by a feeling of nostalgia. Written in 1947, is based on the novel by James Agee A Death in the Family: a child lying in the grass in the summer, in Knoxville, Tennessee, looks at the sky and lets his thoughts chase the joys and sorrows of life.

In the second part of the concert the suggestions from overseas continue, with the majestic Symphony n. 3 of Aaron Copland. First performed in 1946, Leonard Bernstein - one of the major interpreters of the composition - defined the Third Symphony 'an American monument'. Antonio Pappano comments “In music you can feel the aspiration towards a positive future. It is not only beautiful but very rhythmic music ''.

In the finale Copland reworks another of his famous page, Fanfare for the Common Man. Sir Pappano explains again 'It is dedicated not to a hero but to the normal person. I find it very moving that he takes up this fanfare and develops it in the finale making it a truly majestic, beautiful thing, a celebration of humanity ''.
