The full registration of the complete opera for keyboard by Girolamo Frescobaldi performed for the first time on a piano tuned with the mesotonic system.
A musical project developed in 10 CDs published by Fluente Records, the result of years of study and analysis of all of Frescobaldi's work and philosophy.
A real experiment, innovative, unique and never done before, which aims to re-propose Frescobaldi in a renewed guise, with new colors and new sounds. And new emotions! A modern but at the same time "ancient" and "pure" listening experience, preserving the "affections" contained in Frescobaldi's music thanks to the seventeenth-century mesotone tuning and the observance of Baroque performance practice.
To carry out this project, however, I didn't limit myself to using a normal concert piano: I decided to tune it like a harpsichord, using the seventeenth-century mesotonic system instead of the equal tempered system, normally used today in modern instruments.
I focused on this choice, however aware of his danger, to give the listener a more “ancient” and “pure” listening experience, preserving the “affects” contained in Frescobaldi's music which otherwise would have been lost with the equal tempered system.
Frescobaldi's greatest merit was that of having brought "feelings" into keyboard music: in fact, in that period music was mainly composed using very complex and elaborate contrapuntal architectures which, however, brought it to a level of abstraction very distant from of the common man. Frescobaldi, like his predecessors, used counterpoint to create finely inlaid compositions with skill and elegance, however managing to be the first to combine this type of writing with the world of emotions, those that in the seventeenth century were commonly called "affects".
Making a parallel with another great contemporary artist, it can be said that like Caravaggio, pioneer of a new way of using light, Frescobaldi created a new language that was not only perfect from a contrapuntal point of view, but also from an expressive one, using the musical figures in an incomparable way.
