Lyric Theater Foundation of Cagliari
The Foundation is based in the homonymous Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, inaugurated in 1993 at the end of a very long season of works. The current building was erected to replace the ancient Civic Theater, which was destroyed by the bombings of the Second World War.


From 21 September to 23 December '21 the billboard is on stage 'Autumn in Music 2021which replaces the scheduled shows of the Concert Season and the Opera and Ballet Season, modified due to the health emergency.

The Opera Theater of Cagliari And active all year round with symphonic-chamber, opera and ballet seasons. On its stage, together with theOrchestra and from Chorus of the Teatro Lirico, protagonists of many prestigious productions, there have been artists of excellent level who have contributed to determining the relaunch of Cagliari's musical activity.

Among others, the directors Riccardo Muti, Georges Prêtre, Mstislav Rostropovich, Zubin Mehta, Iván Fischer, Carlo Maria Giulini, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Pierre Boulez, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Lorin Maazel, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Neville should be remembered. Marriner, Carlos Kleiber, Valery Gergiev, Trevor Pinnock, Christopher Hogwood; the directors Dario Fo, Beni Montresor, Luca Ronconi, Hennings Brockhaus, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Graham Vick, Denis Krief, Gilbert Deflo, Stephen Medcalf, Giancarlo Cobelli; the soloists Maurice Bourgue, Kim Kashkashian, Murray Perahia, Mikhail Pletnev, Viktoria Mullova, Truls Mørk, Sabine Meyer, Vadim Repin, Yuri Bashmet, Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Canino, Uto Ughi, Trevor Pinnock, Maxim Vengerov, Vadim Mariatia and Katia Labèque, Julian Rachlin, Fazil Say, Maurizio Pollini; the Filarmonica della Scala, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Philharmonia Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Chor und Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, New York Philharmonic ensembles .

In recent years, great attention has also been paid to contemporary Italian composers, like Aldo Clementi, Sylvano Bussotti, Azio Corghi, Marco Tutino, to whom new compositions have been commissioned.

Among the many important lyrical productions, those of operas in the first Italian performance or of new production are particularly important: Sebastian (adapted from Le martyre de Saint-Sébastien by Claude Debussy), Dalibor by Bedrich Smetana, Die Feen by Richard Wagner, Cerevicki is Oprichnik by Pëtr Il'ic Tchaikovsky, Die ägyptische Helena by Richard Strauss, Euryanthe by Carl Maria von Weber, A Village Romeo and Juliet by Frederich Delius, Alfonso und Estrella by Franz Schubert, Hans Heiling by Heinrich Marschner, Oedipe by George Enescu, Chérubin by Jules Massenet, Die Vögel by Walter Braunfels, The legend of the invisible city of Kitez and the maiden Fevronija by Nikolaj Rimsky Korsakov, Semën Kotko by Sergej Prokofiev.

For the quality and innovative character of its programming, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari received, in 2001, the "Franco Abbiati" Prize (section "Initiatives"). The prestigious recognition of Italian music critics was also attributed to Denis Krief and Marcelo Alvarez for Lucia di Lammermoor and to Stephen Medcalf for Carmen: both works were produced by the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, respectively in 2000 and 2005.
