Fausto Zadra Piano Festival 2023 | XIII edition • Corato and Cellamare
There are fifteen concerts proposed by the Apulian piano festival, the names of Emanuele Arciuli and Daniel Rivera stand out on the programme.
Back on Fausto Zadra Piano Festival, which presents the XIII edition to Corato is Cellamare from 27 August to 19 October 2023.  Fifteen the concerts on the programme, with the participation of internationally renowned artists and young talents: among the great performers, Emanuele Arciuli, the Argentine master Daniel Rivera (who will also hold a masterclass), the Russian concert pianist Albert Mamriev.

The poster designed by the artistic director and creator of the Festival, the well-known concert performer and teacher from Puglia Philip Balducci, is punctuated with originality by the red thread of recurring anniversaries this year, to which they are dedicated freebies inserted within each program, maintaining its variety.

Particular attention will therefore be paid to Sergej Rachmaninov in 150th of birth, to Sergej Prokofiev is  Francis Poulenc, respectively on the 70th and 60th anniversary of their passing: a tribute to three fundamental figures in the musical history of the 20th century. A memory will also be dedicated to Salvador Allende fifty years after his death e Dizzy Gillespie on the thirtieth anniversary of his death, but there will be many great composers who will be heard in the rich program that ranges from pianorécital at the chamber music to the jazz.

The program

The Festival starts with masterclass of piano improvement held by Daniel Rivera (27 – 31 August), and gets to the heart of the final concert offered by best students the August 31 (9 pm) a Corato, in the Cloister of the City Palace.

The 1st September in the same place, Daniel Rivera will perform four hands with Filippo Balducci, artistic director of the Festival, on an exciting musical journey From Mozart to tango, comprising a tribute to Sergei Rachmaninov in 150° of the birth.

The 2 September it will be the turn of Emanuele Arculthe, pianist particularly dedicated to contemporary music, and one of the greatest connoisseurs of the American repertoire; will remember Salvador Allende fifty years after his death with a selection from People United Will Never Be Defeated!, the thirty-six variations written by the American composer Frederic Rzewski on Sergio Ortega's song, The united community will be killed, which has become a symbol of the Chilean resistance. The concert continues with a selection of rarities, contemporary American songs including some dedicated to Arciuli.

Next, space for the young people Excellencies of the Piccinni Conservatory with a double date, the September 3 to Corato and the September 5th at the Caracciolo Castle of Cellamare: the very young pianist Andrea Simone De Nicolò, just sixteen years old and already winner of numerous national and international competitions, will perform in the concert formatted as Homage to Rachmaninov and Prokofiev on the occasion of their respective anniversaries.

There is no shortage of Jazz with the Sandro Savino Piano Trio, on stage the September 6 to Cellamare and the September 7 to Corator. The Apulian trio led by pianist Sandro Savino, with bassist Pierluigi Balducci and drummer Pippo D'Ambrosio, offers a journey through international standards and a memory of Dizzy Gillespie on the thirtieth anniversary of his death.

Two concerts – the first in double performance – are dedicated to the great chamber music, with the piano supported first by the flute and then by the violin: theSeptember 8 to Corato and the September 9 to Cellamare the flautist Joseph Nova and the pianist Raphael Maisano present The singing flute, with a Homage to Francis Poulenc sixty years after his death. Alongside the Sonata by the French composer, the program includes pieces by Mozart is Donizetti and two very famous pieces like the Meditation from Thäis by Massenet and theHabanera from Carmen by Bizet.

The September 10 in the Cloister of the City Palace a Corato the duo composed of the violinist will perform Carmelo Andriani and the pianist Pierluigi Shirt: Singability and passion from the Baroque to the 20th century is the title of the evening, which will celebrate in particular Poulenc is Rachmaninov.

L'Sept. 11 always a Corato, the recital is scheduled A century of Romanticism of the Russian pianist Albert Mamriev, which will perform music by Schubert and will honor Rachmaninov with Études-Tableaux op. 33.

Finally, at the end of the first part of the Festival, the September 15 to Cellamare (Castello Caracciolo) another appointment with the Excellences of the Piccinni Conservatory: Ludovica Aurelia Fanelli (violin), Michela Cioce (cello) and Giulio Mareschi (piano) will compare the Trio no. 1 op. 8 of Brahms and the Elegiac Trio No. 1 of Rachmaninov.

In the programming queue, the October 17 toRonchi Auditorium Cellamare and the October 18 to the Municipal Theater of Corato the famous musical fairy tale will be presented in a matinee (11 am). Peter and the wolf of Prokofiev with the pianists Gemma Debattista is Marilena Liso, the narrator of Patricia Labianca and illustrations by Andrew Good morning.

The Fausto Zadra Piano Festival 2023 will end on October 19 to the theater Municipality of Corato with the concert by the Apulian pianist Vitantonio Caroli, in homage to the multi-instrumentalist and composer from Corato Antonio Molinini, student of Oscar winner Luis Bacalov, who passed away at just forty years old in 2021.
