Portogruaro International Music Festival 2022 - 40th edition

Come back from 26 August to 9 September 2022 the Portogruaro International Music Festival, which this year reaches the important milestone of 40th edition

Flagship among the initiatives organized by Santa Cecilia Music Foundation, the Portogruaro Festival is entrusted for the second time to the artistic direction of Alessandro Taverna, an internationally renowned pianist who took the first steps of his training in Portogruaro.

Entitled "Mirrors", the Festival 2022 it invites to a 'reflection' on music as a place that reflects the signs of the past and the present and prefigures the future, revealing what is unknown.

This is the visionary and evocative approach that defines the artistic choices of the billboard, which also includes the celebration of historical figures linked to the territory (first of all - 75 years after his death - Luigi Russolo, futurist composer and painter born in Portogruaro in 1885), the renewed attention to the new generation of concert performers and to the works of contemporary composers, who project the Venetian Festival towards the music of the future.

The protagonists of the 2022 edition will be internationally renowned artists - orchestras, chamber ensembles, soloists and conductors - some arrive for the first time in Portogruaro, others are welcome returns who sign up for the desire to host concert performers who have marked important milestones in the 40 years of history of the Festival.

The didactic offer of the Masterclass, with teachers from major musical institutions in the world. Indispensable cornerstone of the Festival and complementary to the concert program, this year they will be divided into over thirty sessions from 3 August to 9 September.

The 2022 Festival will be preceded by several previews ("Waiting for the festival") that from 13 July to 25 August will animate the most evocative places of the historic city and the architectural and landscape beauties of the area.

The 40th Portogruaro Festival opens Friday August 26, 2022 to the Luigi Russolo Theater with the return of Uto Ughi, flanked by Virtuosi Italians driven by Alberto Martini. The great violinist returns to the Festival after thirty years, which inaugurates by paying homage to the extraordinary career of one of the most famous artists in the world, a milestone in Italian violin history.

These are the other main events of the rich program:

Monday August 29 always at the Russolo Theater will be the protagonistsChamber orchestra of Perugia directed by Enrico Bronzi and the Trio of Parma: the Triple Concert by Beethoven and the Serenata n. 1 of Johannes Brahms.

The concert on Wednesday August 31, in the same place, will see the debut of the duo formed by the violinist Francesca Dego (already applauded at last year's Festival) e Alessandro Taverna at the piano, in the playbill pieces by Schönberg, Richard Strauss is César Franck.

Thursday September 1st, in the Garden of Palazzo Altan Venanzio di Portogruaro, follows a moment of study and experimentation dedicated to electronic music and Luigi Russolo, of which the clarinetist will be the protagonists Anton Dressler, the percussionist Alexander Perissinotto and the guitarist Davide Ferrario.

The following evening, Friday 2 September, one of the most anticipated appointments is scheduled: the La Scala Philharmonic which celebrates, like the Festival, the 40th anniversary of its foundation. A "anniversary in the mirror”, Celebrated with the presence of two leading artists, on the podium Robert Trevino, Principal Guest Conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, and violin soloist Julian Rachlin, who at the Portogruaro Festival performed at the start of an artistic path that led him to the major theaters in the world. Songs by Haydn, Beethoven and the Concerto for violin and orchestra op. 35 of Tchaikovsky.

Another historic career is celebrated on Sunday September 4th, again at the Russolo, with the pianist's recital Boris Petrushansky, which will propose works by Skrjabin, Rachmaninov is Profof'ev.

Monday September 5th, in the archaeological area of Concordia Sagittaria, it will be the turn of the guitarist Giampaolo Bandini who will perform with the Quartet Noûs, offering music by Boccherini, Mendelssohn is Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

Among the chamber ensembles, the Wind Quintet of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia (Andrea Oliva, Francesco Di Rosa, Alessandro Carbonare, Andrea Zucco, Guglielmo Pellarin) that Wednesday September 7 he will play at the Russolo Theater with the pianist Leonora Armellini, winner of the fifth prize at the last Chopin Competition in Warsaw, with music by Citrus, Ligeti, Thuille is Poulenc.

Finally, Friday September 9 L'Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Michele Gamba will close the Portogruaro 2022 Festival with the Fifth Symphony of Tchaikovsky and with Alessandro Taverna soloist in the 3rd Piano Concerto by Rachmaninov.

The Concert at dawn - music format that enjoys growing popularity with the public - Sunday August 28 (6 o'clock) in the Court of the Castle of San Vito al Tagliamento, with the participation of the oboist Fabien Thouand flanked byArrigoni Academy of Arches, and the appointment in Republic Square in Portogruaro Saturday September 3, with the saxophonist Federico Mondelci engaged in a program from Bach to Morricone together withItalian Saxophone Quartet.

The collateral events also return Shadows, the traditional in-depth meetings accompanied by tastings of local wines; among the names present this year, the dean of Italian musicologists Quirino Prince (23 August), the art historian Paolo Bolpagni (August 30th), the writer and journalist of Rai Radio3 Oreste Bossini (2 September) and the composer Michele dall'Ongaro, President / Superintendent of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia (September 9).
