She made her debut as the protagonist in Tancredi at the Rossini Opera Festival in 1999, establishing herself as a reference interpreter of the 'en travesti' roles that see her as protagonist in the most important theaters in the world; awarded the Abbiati Prize, she has collaborated with the most prestigious orchestra conductors and has an extensive discography to her credit.

Daniela Barcelona was born in Trieste, where she completed her musical and vocal studies under the guidance of Alessandro Vitiello. After winning prestigious international competitions such as the "Adriano Belli" in Spoleto, the "Iris Adami Corradetti" in Padua and the "Pavarotti International Voice Competition" in Philadelphia, he made his debut as the protagonist in Tancredi at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro in 1999, establishing herself since then as a reference interpreter of the "en travesti" roles, which see her as the protagonist of the most prestigious theaters in the world, from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, from the Royal Opera House in London to the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, from the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich to the Teatro Real in Madrid, from the Salzburg Festival to the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, just to name a few.
 
Awarded the "Premio Abbiati", she has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti, Myung-whun Chung, Riccardo Chailly, James Levine, Antonio Pappano, Gianandrea Noseda, Alberto Zedda, Roberto Abbado, Valery Gergiev, Bruno Campanella, Sir Colin Davis, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Lorin Maazel, Michele Mariotti, Kent Nagano, Georges Prêtre, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Juraj Valčuha, Zubin Mehta, and with directors such as David McVicar, Robert Carsen, Luca Ronconi, Damiano Michieletto, Pierluigi Pizzi, Mario Martone, Hugo de Ana, Paul Curran, David Alden, Yannis Kokkos and Emilio Sagi.
 
In Italy she was acclaimed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Lucrezia Borgia, Iphigénie en Aulide, Il viaggio a Reims, La donna del lago, Luisa Miller, Falstaff, Les Troyens), whose historic reopening she inaugurated on 7 December 2004 with Europe recognized directed by Riccardo Muti, at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro (Tancredi, La donna del lago, Semiramide, Bianca e Falliero, Adelaide di Borgogna, Maometto II, Sigismondo, Stabat Mater, Petite messe solennelle for the 150th anniversary of the composer's death Pesaro), at the Teatro Regio in Turin (Anna Bolena, Tancredi, Don Carlo, Samson et Dalila, Verdi's Requiem, Rossini's Stabat Mater), at the Rome Opera Theater (The Barber of Seville, The Flame, Cinderella, L 'Italiana in Algeri, Tancredi, Semiramide, Luisa Miller), at the Comunale of Bologna (Giulio Cesare) and of Florence (The Barber of Seville, L'Italiana in Algeri, Tancredi, Orfeo ed Euridice), at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Verdi's Requiem, Il viag Thurs in Reims, Petite messe solennelle), at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, at the Sferisterio in Macerata (Norma, Verdi's Requiem), at the Arena and at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona (Verdi's Requiem, Aida, L'Italiana in Algeri ), at the Teatro Regio in Parma (Norma), at the San Carlo in Naples (Anna Bolena, Orfeo ed Euridice), at the Carlo Felice in Genoa (Cinderella, Verdi's Requiem, La Favorite), at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo (Stabat Mater, Norma), at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste (Geneva di Scotland by Simon Mayr, Tancredi, L'Italiana in Algeri), at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Missa defunctorum by Paisiello) and made his debut at the Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo in the inaugural Gala ( 2018).

He also sang Rossini's Stabat Mater with the Bucharest Radio Chamber Orchestra led by Toufic Maatouk at the Baalbeck Festival, the Heroic Bel Canto recital of music by Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini at the Victorian Opera in Melbourne and Verdi's Requiem Mass with the Berlin Konzerthausorchester conducted by Juraj Valčuha and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by Riccardo Muti.
 
Recently Daniela Barcellona sang in Verdi's Requiem Mass conducted by Myung-Whun Chung at the Circus Maximus and in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Arena di Verona. She also interpreted the duchess Federica in Luisa Miller conducted by Michele Mariotti at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome; Mrs Quickly in Falstaff conducted by Zubin Mehta directed by Mario Martone at Staatsoper Berlin, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and Opéra de Lyon directed by Barry Kosky, Madame de la Haltière in Cendrillon at Opéra National de Paris and Laura in the Mona Lisa at the Teatro alla Scala.
 
Among the other awards that have been assigned to her, the prizes 'Lucia Valentini-Terrani', 'Aureliano Pertile', 'International Opera Award', 'CD Classica', 'Rossini d'oro', 'San Giusto d'Oro', 'Seal of the fourteenth century' of Trieste, 'Oscar of opera', 'Olivier Award' and 'Pesaro Music Award'.
 
Numerous recordings, which include monographs dedicated to Scarlatti and Pergolesi (published by Sony); works by Rossini such as the Stabat Mater, the Petite messe solennelle, Giovanna d'Arco, two editions of Tancredi, Bianca and Falliero, Adelaide di Borgogna, Sigismondo and Il viaggio a Reims; by Bellini (two editions of Norma); of Mayr and Meyerbeer (respectively, Guinevere of Scotland and Margaret of Anjou); as well as Verdi's Requiem (in the famous recording with Claudio Abbado and the Berliner Philharmoniker) and Berlioz's monumental Les Troyens, conducted by Valery Gergiev. In 2018 a complete recording of Rossini's Semiramide with Daniela Barcellona as Arsace and Albina Shagimuratova in the title role was released on CD by Opera Rara. The album was awarded Record of the Month by Opera, Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine, was named Best Recordings of 2018 by Gramophone, IClassical and Sunday Times magazines and won the 2019 Opera Award for “Best Recording Complete Opera”. Two DVDs of Falstaff have recently been released, one recorded at the Teatro Real in Madrid in a new production by Laurent Pelly, the second, a production by Mario Martone, released by C Major Entertainment and recorded at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Also released in 2022 are the recordings of Verdi's Requiem conducted by Gianandrea Noseda at the Verbier Festival and of the Stabat Mater conducted by Gustavo Gimeno on the podium of the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg.
