"Bologna Festival 2022 - The New The Ancient"
For the fall of Bologna Festival come back The New The Ancient, the historic review dedicated to ancient and contemporary music. To inaugurate it on Wednesday 21 September (8.30 pm) at the Basilica of Saints Bartholomew and Gaetano, will be the hugely popular British vocal ensemble The Tallis Scholars led by the founder and director Peter Phillips.

Half a century ago, no one would have imagined that Renaissance vocal music would become "popular": a miracle performed by the Tallis Scholars who also brought the Masses of Palestrina, the Motets of Josquin, the sacred music of Gesualdo to the general public.

Founded in 1973 from Peter Phillips, the ensemble boasts impressive numbers: more than 2,000 concerts, 100 countries visited, over 60 records, but above all an unmistakable vocal quality: perfect intonation, density and homogeneity of timbre, clarity in counterpoint.

And often, as in this Bolognese concert, he approaches the Old with the New - Timeless polyphonies it is in fact the title of the evening that alternates Renaissance and Baroque authors, from Thomas Tallis to Gregorio Allegri, to the contemporary Arvo Pärt.
