Bologna Festival Association Onlus Presents

“ Bologna Festival 2023 – 42nd edition ”
It leaves on Tuesday September 19, 2023  (8.30 pm) at Oratory of San Filippo Neri the refined and precious review The New The Old of Bologna Festival, which brings together ancient and contemporary music by presenting authors and programs that are rarely listened to and never taken for granted.

The protagonist of the concert that opens the cycle will be Michele Marco Rossi, among the most inventive and original Italian cellists, on stage together with the young woman Calamani Orchestra: the program presents two admittedly "night" pages of Salvatore Sciarrino, Gesualdo without words is Air lines – a piece presented for the first time in the version with real parts – and two instrumental works from the early eighteenth century in Italy by Nicola Fiorenza is Leonardo Leo.

Other information of interest

Michele Marco Rossi, born in 1989, has established himself as one of the reference interpreters for today's music. Working closely with the major composers of our time he has already significantly expanded the cello repertoire, moving from instrumental music to avant-garde theatre, electronic music and video installations. Continuously looking for new repertoires, techniques and expressive possibilities, he brings to the stage an unprecedented repertoire of "instrumental theatre", transcriptions, performative re-elaborations, in programs that draw on different centuries of music and in "transversal" projects that bring contemporary expression in front of the most disparate audiences. As a soloist or in chamber ensembles, he has premiered the works of many composers, from the most established names to emerging young people. Among the many include Georges Aperghis, Helmut Lachenmann, Klaus Huber, Enno Poppe, Unsuk Chin, Ennio Morricone, Bernhard Gander, Noriko Baba, Matteo Franceschini, Vittorio Montalti, Federico Gardella, Zeno Baldi, Pasquale Corrado. Recent, the world premiere of Concerto n.2 for cello and large orchestra by Luis de Pablo, performed together with the Orchestra del Comunale di Bologna conducted by Oksana Lyniv. Salvatore Sciarrino, whose Linee d'aria premiered, Fabio Vacchi, Alessandro Solbiati, Filippo Perocco, Lucia Ronchetti and Ivan Fedele, whose cello music he recorded on a CD which earned him the Abbiati Record Award 2022. Several times a guest on Rai Radio3, since 2023 he has collaborated with the Archi Magazine, curating a new column of his conversations with the major composers of our time.

Founded in 2018 and resident at the Mancinelli Theater in Orvieto, theOrchestra Vittorio Calamani Philharmonic, collaborates with various conductors, dedicating himself to the baroque, classical, modern and contemporary repertoire. An active part of the cultural life of its regional territory - under the guidance of conductors such as Tito Ceccherini, Hossein Pishakar, Pasquale Corrado, Diego Ceretta - the orchestra has already performed in various festivals and concert seasons in Italy and abroad, at Accademia Musicale Chigiana as well as at the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh, at the Est Ovest Festival in Turin and at the Ilija Kolarac Theater in Belgrade. There are many collaborations with established performers such as Carolin Widmann, Maurizio Baglini, Michele Marco Rossi, Anssi Karttunen, Massimo Mercelli or with emerging soloists of extraordinary talent such as Giuseppe Gibboni. In its programming the Orchestra pays great attention to today's music, working together with composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino and Alessandro Solbiati or creating projects involving young and promising composers such as Daria Scia, Michele Sarti, Beste Özçelebi, Livia Malossi Bottignole.
