"Bologna Festival 2022"
Bologna Festival kicks off the autumn season with a highly spectacular event of great cultural impact: a project by videomapping dedicated to Basilica of San Petronio, one of the most representative monuments of the civic and architectural history of Bologna, accompanied by an engaging musical program.

The immense Basilica of San Petronio, founded in 1390, shows up with a facade nowadays unfinished, but in the course of half a millennium, from the sixteenth century to today, many architects have imagined and designed a face for the monumental building overlooking Piazza Maggiore: they are in fact almost 50 historical sketches, never realized, today kept in the extraordinary collection of the Museum of the Basilica.

In the evenings from 15 to September 19, 2022, starting at 9 pm, on the unfinished facade of San Petronio, a dozen of the most important drawings, from the sixteenth century onwards, developed by great architects such as Andrea Palladio, Giulio Romano, Baldassarre Peruzzi, Vignola, Terribilia, Girolamo Rainaldi, up to those made for competition of 1933. At the end of the last “green” dedication by Mario Cucinella, which will transform the facade into a garden.

"It is a dream to think of being able to see our unfinished Basilica finally completed for a few evenings and, as if by magic, to enjoy Piazza Maggiore with the facade of San Petronio with Gothic spiers or in Renaissance style or rich in Baroque scrolls or in the linear futurist taste - he claims Magdalene of Lisca, Superintendent and Artistic Director of Bologna Festival, creator of the project -. The musical accompaniment with one of Rossini's most famous and evocative pieces will make this cultural experience very exciting. "

The realization of the videomapping is entrusted to the video-artist Luca Agnani, a leading figure in the field of digital art, who will redesign the historic facade of San Petronio by elaborating the original sketches.

The opening night (September 15 9 pm), foresees a symphonic concert ofThornless Orchestra directed by Matteo Parmeggiani with a program focused on authors linked to the Bolognese musical civilization such as Gioachino Rossini, Ottorino Respighi is Richard Wagner; before the concert the art historian Luigi Ficacci and the architect Mario Cucinella they will dialogue together to introduce the project in its historical-architectural values.

On the notes of the last song on the program, theOverture by Guillaume Tell of Rossini, videomapping projections on the facade of the Basilica will begin in sync with the live performance.

In the following evenings from 16 to 19 September the public will be able to attend the videomapping show on recorded music, in the performance of Rossini's Overture from William Tell byOrchestra of the Municipal Theater of Bologna. They are the notes of Gioachino Rossini, honorary citizen of Bologna, to mark the construction of the new light architectures imprinted on the facade of San Petronio in the videomapping show, as refined as sophisticated combination of visual art and digital technology.

Is always Rossini and his ironic and witty Pechés de vieillesse - the album Quelques riens in particular - they are the source from which he draws Respighi to build his brilliant sound architectures in the symphonic suite Rossiniana, treating the piano pieces of the beloved Rossini with all his skill as an orchestral colorist.

Bologna is also famous as a Wagnerian city: almost all of the Italian premieres of Richard Wagner, appointed honorary citizen in 1872, took place right in the city of Bologna. Lohengrin it was performed on 1 November 1871 at the Municipal Theater with considerable success in all fourteen replicas. On the podium, Angelo Mariani. Instead, he was the great one Arturo Toscanini to direct the first Bolognese dei Nuremberg master singers October 29, 1904, another very important piece of the Wagnerian history of the city.
