“ Opera Noveau – Opera Season 2023 ”
It is inspired by the painting of the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero  – who passed away last September –, the colorful display of theElixir of love of Gaetano Donizetti produced by Nausica Opera International, scheduled in Opera Season 2023 of the Municipal Theater of Bologna from 24 to 30 November 2023 to the Municipal Nouveau, the temporary space in the fairgrounds.

Signed by Victor Garcia Sierra for the direction and the scenes, the show was performed for the first time at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto in 2014 with Botero himself present in the room. In the second half in Bologna the 27-year-old will get on the podium Diego Waxing, a talent on the rise: principal conductor of the ORT-Orchestra della Toscana since last March, he recently enjoyed great success at the Wexford Festival Opera in another Donizetti title, the rare Zoraida of Grenade.

«Generosity and color are characteristics that identify the unique and unmistakable style of maestro Fernando Botero» – explains the director Victor Sierra, Venezuelan by origin and Italian by adoption – «In an attempt to combine his style with Italian work, I was inspired by two of his paintings from the series The circus; from one I developed the scenography, from the other a clear reference of its characters with those of the opera The elixir of love». The set-up is completed by the costumes designed by Marco Guion and the lights from Stefano Gorreri.

Protagonists on stage, alternating in the performances on 24, 26, 29 November and 25, 28, 30 November will be Karen Gardeazabal is Lavinia Bini in Adina's part, Juan Francisco Gatell is Valerio Borgioni like Nemorino, Andrew Vincenzo Bonsignore is Ian Antem as Belcore e Marco Filippo Romano is Vincenzo Taormina in those of Doctor Dulcamara; Elena Borin plays Giannetta. The Orchestra and Choir, prepared by Gea Garatti Ansini, are those of the Teatro Comunale of Bologna.

The elixir of love it is among the most loved and most represented works of Donizetti. 'Playful melodrama  in two acts with a libretto by Happy Romans, adapted from Le Philtre (The filter) of Eugene Scribe, was performed for the first time at the Teatro della Canobbiana in Milan on 12 May 1832. The success was immediate for the opera which can be light but also melancholic, as evidenced by Nemorino's famous aria A furtive tear.
