She embarked on a prominent international operatic career and is regarded as one of the leading sopranos of her generation.

Other major works in his repertoire include The Marriage of Figaro (Contessa), Cosi fan tutte (Fiordiligi), La clemenza di Tito (Vitellia), Othello (Desdemona), Falstaff (Alice Ford), Il Trovatore (Leonora) and Simon Boccanegra (Amelia).

She made her debut as a soprano in June 1990 at the Teatro Comunale in Florence as Ines in a production of “Il Trovatore” directed by Zubin Mehta with Luciano Pavarotti in the title role, with Dolora Zajick as Azucena and Giorgio Zancanaro as Count di Luna, broadcast from the radio. Later she was the third girl in The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny with Catherine Malfitano at the Teatro Verdi (Florence). Ines in Il Trovatore conducted by Daniel Oren with Raina Kabaivanska, Bruna Baglioni, Nicola Martinucci, Leo Nucci and Angelo Nosotti at the Teatro Regio in Parma. Sainte Marguerite in Joan of Arc at the stake directed by Gianandrea Gavazzeni in Florence. Again in Florence in 1992 he was Pédro in Don Quichotte by Jules Massenet with Ruggero Raimondi and in 1994 Mimì in La bohème with Giorgio Surian.
Her debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan was in 1993 in the role of Agnese from Vincenzo Bellini's Beatrice di Tenda, with Cecilia Gasdia in the title role and Antonio Salvadori in the role of Filippo. Since then, in the course of his career, he has taken part in countless opera performances, always in leading roles, at La Scala, inaugurating the season four times.
Since the early nineties she has proved to be one of the reference interpreters of the repertoire of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, obtaining in this repertoire a success with audiences and critics at the major theaters and festivals around the world.
Conductors with whom he has worked in opera and on the concert stage include Claudio Abbado, Lorin Maazel, Sir Charles Mackerras, Riccardo Muti, Georges Prêtre, Daniele Gatti, Antonio Pappano, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Andrew Davis, Semyon Bychkov and Riccardo Chailly.
