Riccardo Muti returns to Sant'Agata di Militello on September 12th.
It was held on 12 September '26

“The dream and the abyss” in a multi-year journey compares the cycle of Schubert's piano sonatas and the masterpieces composed by Schumann in the thirties. In this way, the traits of the journey of the two musical geniuses, born a few years apart, who gave life to Romanticism, are explored from a particular angle: an excursus full of musical, but also literary, biographical, poetic ideas. The red thread that unites Schubert to Schumann is in fact unequivocal and compelling, if we consider that the greatness of the last Schubert was initially intuited by Schumann who, drawing impetus, decided to devote himself to the piano in the early years of his brilliant career.
"Although there are many biographical and contextual differences - declared Andre to Lucchesini -, many aspects bring the two authors closer together: the creative freedom that is woven into the plot of a skilful craftsmanship, lyricism and sudden dramatic lighting, alternation between grandiose endings and astonished extinguishments in the abyss of silence. […]. An apparently limpid writing, but traversed by very modern anxieties and rages ... "
Andrea Lucchesini
Trained at the great piano school of Maria Tipo, Andrea Lucchesini gained international attention at a very young age, with the victory of the “Dino Ciani” International Competition at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Since then he has been playing all over the world with prestigious orchestras and the greatest conductors, arousing the enthusiasm of the public for the combination of solidity of the formal system in his performances, extreme care of sound, timbre refinement and natural communicative ability.
The first months of 2020 saw him protagonist of the Cartagena Festival, and in concert at the Teatro Alla Scala directed by Lorenzo Viotti, while important commitments were canceled that would have seen him protagonist, among other things, of concerts with the La Scala Orchestras and the Maggio Musicale conducted by Zubin Mehta.
His broad activity, marked by the desire to explore music without limitations, sees him propose programs ranging from classical to contemporary repertoire, offered both in concert and in numerous disc recordings.
Passionate chamber musician, he regularly collaborates with artists of great prestige, numerous duo recordings with the cellist Mario Brunello including the complete Beethoven opera.
In recent years Lucchesini has enthusiastically immersed himself in the Schubertian repertoire, also with various recordings (Avie Records, Audite). For BMG he recorded the Concerto II "Echoing curves" by Luciano Berio under the direction of the Author, subsequently recording the complete works for piano only for Avie Records, which quickly became the reference edition.
Another author very dear to Lucchesini is Fabio Vacchi, of whom he presented the new Piano Sonata dedicated to him as a world premiere at the LAC in Lugano.
Lucchesini is also passionately dedicated to teaching, currently at the Fiesole School of Music, of which he was artistic director until 2016. He also holds frequent masterclasses at important musical institutions, including the Academy of Music in Pinerolo, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and since 2008 he has been an Academician of S. Cecilia.
Since 2018 he is Artistic Director of the Roman Philharmonic Academy.
