Friends of Music Association of Padua Presents

It is a rich and original book of appointments proposed by 67th Concert Season of the Friends of Music of Padua: twenty concerts scheduled atPollini Auditorium from 25 October 2023 to 15 April 2024 they make up a program punctuated by thematic itineraries and the presence of recognized performers from the Italian and international music scene.

Among the prominent guests, pianists such as Alexander Romanovsky, Nelson Goerner, Nikolay Lugansky, Fazil Say debuting in the Season of Friends, Peter De Maria in duo with the cellist Enrico Dindo, Julius Drake to accompany the mezzo-soprano Fleur Barron, Alexander Lonquich with a group of amazing musicians including Ilya Gringolts to the violin, Enrico Bronzes on the cello, Patricia Kopatchinskaya in the unprecedented role of speaking voice; to mention again, for the appointments with ancient music, the presence of the acclaimed countertenor Raffaele Pe, 'baroque star', with his group The Lyre of Orpheus.

There is also no shortage of chamber ensembles, including the Sitkovetsky Trio that the October 25 opens the 2023/24 season, flanked by the clarinetist Pablo Barragan: dedicated to French music of the 20th century, their program includes the Rhapsodie premiere for clarinet and piano by Debussy and two masterpieces like the Trio of 1915 by Ravel and the Quatuor pour la fin du temps of Messiah, outlining one of the thematic focuses of the program. In fact, they will be the names of Debussy is Ravel, alongside those of other French authors such as Poulenc and Fauré, one of phil red of the programming: their music will be heard in the concerts of Nelson Goerner (3 November 2023), by Stephen Schilli is Dénes Várjon (January 15, 2024), by Fleur Barron is Julius Drake (6 February 2024), by Fazil Say (20 February 2024), dated Hermès Quartet is Philippe Cassard (February 28, 2024).

But what will energize the billboard will be in general the entire great musical season of the twentieth century with its different styles and expressions: this is how you will listen to the LMoravian and Bohemian quartet literature of Janáček is Martinu, with the Škampa Quartet (November 28, 2023), Stravinsky with the piano transcription of  The firebird in the recital of John Bertolazzi (12 December 2023), Britten, to which fascinating  music for children, rarely listened to, an entire evening will be reserved which will feature the "very Paduan" members of the Cesare Pollini Children's Choir, directed by Marina Malavasi, with Davide Scarabottolo at the piano.

The excursus into the 20th century repertoire will conclude with a true 'pearl', the re-proposal of Pierrot Lunaire of Arnold Schoenberg, just one hundred years after the author himself conducted it in Padua, during a famous tour which in 1924 made a stop at the season of the Bartolomeo Cristofori, the then concert company of the C. Pollini musical institute. A "loyal" member returns to celebrate this particular occasion Friends of MusicAlexander Lonquich, with a group of extraordinary musicians he created especially for the occasion (4 April 2024).

To complete the musical offering there is no shortage of great masterpieces of the classical and romantic repertoire, give her Davidsbuendlertänze of Schumann (Nelson Goerner, November 3, 2023) at Sonatas of Beethoven (John Bertolazzi December 12, 2023, Fazil Say, 20 February 2024), from Novels without words of Mendelssohn at Dance of Chopin (Nicolay Lugansky, 25 March 2024), from Violin sonatas of Schumann/Dietrich/Brahms (Matthias Lingenfelder - Olivier Triendl, 31 January 2024) ai Trios of Schumann is Brahms, with which the Atos Trio concludes its "complete" on April 15, 2024, a concert that will also close the entire 67to Season.

A significant and reserved space for  ancient music, relevant tradition of the seasons of Friends of Musicto. In first place Bach, with the Three Sonatas for viola da gamba (Theodore Woof is Andrew Buccarella, 21 November 2023) and with the harpsichord concerts proposed by him Buccarella With the Abchordis Ensemble, in the European Early Music Day on March 21, 2024. Telemann, together with the music of the French Baroque (marais, D'Anglebert, Dornel with Erik Bosgraaf in threesome with Robert Smith is Alessandro Pianu (March 5, 2024) and, going back in time, the homage to Monteverdi with the concert by Raffaele Pe is The Lyre of Orpheus (December 5, 2023), and the one at polyphony Flemish of the 15th century proposed by James Tomlinson with his vocal ensemble Source & Origin (at their Padua debut on 23 January 2024), in a program constructed as a meditation on the famous altarpiece depicting the Judgment Universal, by the Franco-Flemish painter Rogier van der Weyden.

Almost a cameo inside the 67to Concert Season of the Friends of Music and represented by the cycle A piano for Padua, four recitals which will see as many excellent guests of the program at the keyboard, the aforementioned prestigious pianists Nelson Goerner, Nikolay Lugansky, which returns after the great success of the 20/21 season, Fazil Say  present on the bill for the first time, e Alexander Romanovsky, in the concert on 19 December 2023 entirely dedicated to Rachmaninov, on the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Russian composer.
