“ Season 2022/23 ”
To the San Carlo Theater in Naples the sparkling returns Don chisciotte of Rudolf Nuriev, on stage from 14 to 16 November 2023 for a special preview, waiting to open the 2023/24 Dance Season on December 23rd, with performances until January 4th.

Nuriev, born in Siberia in 1938 and passed away thirty years ago, on 6 January 1993, in Paris, remains a timeless myth. An absolute protagonist of twentieth-century dance, he was among the artists most loved by the public at the San Carlo and by the entire city of Naples, which welcomed him several times during his astonishing career.

Precisely the role of Basilio in Don chisciotte – danced for the first time at the age of 21, in 1959, with the Kirov. – is one of the most representative of his career as an artist, to the point that interpreting it also as a choreographer was a process of natural evolution. Through his rereading of the most famous version by Marius Petipa, Nureyev's choreography gives the ballet a more intimate look, in which, although "life on the outside continues" (as he himself often liked to say, almost with Chekhovian echoes), the internal upheavals and emotions of the protagonists reveal themselves to be powerful.

The sparkling and precious choreography created by Rudolf Nureyev starting from that of Marius Petipa will see on stage Étoiles, soloists and ballet of the Teatro di San Carlo directed by Clotilde Vayer. Protagonists, in the role of Kitri Luisa Ieluzzi (November 14th and 16th) And Claudia D'Antonio (November 15) and in those of the barber Basilio, Alessandro Staiano (November 14th and 16th) And Danilo Notaro (November 15). The setup and that of Royal Swedish Opera, with sets and costumes designed by Nadine Baylis and lights by John B.Read.

The music of Ludwig Minkus adapted from John Lanchbery are performed by the Neapolitan Massimo Orchestra conducted by Martin Yates.
