"Dance Season 2021 - 2022"
To the San Carlo Theater there Dance Season 2021/2022 opens with one of the most popular titles in the repertoire, Swan Lake of Pëtr Il'ič Tchaikovsky, staged with six performances from 28 December 2021 to 5 January 2022.

The show is reprized in the version of Patrice Bart, for the first time at the Neapolitan Opera, the protagonist is Ballet of the Teatro di San Carlo directed by Clotilde Vayer. The music of Pëtr Il'ič Čajkovskij will be performed bySan Carlo Orchestra directed for the occasion by Benjamin Shwartz. Scenes and costumes of the staging from the Rome Opera House are by Luisa Spinatelli.

To interpret Odette / Odile will be Luisa Ieluzzi (in the performances of 28 and 30 December and 5 January), Claudia D'Antonio (December 29) e Anna Chiara Amirante (January 2, 4). To take on the role of Prince Sigfried Alessandro Staiano (28th, 30th December, 5th January), Salvatore Manzo (December 29) e Danilo Notaro (January 2, 4).

Swan Lake is the first of the three ballets set to music by Pëtr Il'ič Tchaikovsky, on a libretto by Vladimir Begichev and Vasil Geltzer based on the ancient German fairy tale Der geraubte Schleier (“The stolen veil”), in the version of Johann Karl August Musäus. The ballet, in four acts and four scenes, was first performed at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow in February 1877 with the choreography of Julius Wenzel Reisinger, but was not successful. The turning point came only after the composer's death (1893) when Marius Petipa created a new extraordinary choreography together with Lev Ivanov, making its debut in January 1895 at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. It was the consecration for Swan Lake, which became a cornerstone of the ballet repertoire and one of the most popular and loved titles in the world.

Patrice Bart in its version it condenses the original ballet into two acts, building a staging where the characters of the Queen Mother and Benno take on greater importance.

Bart, born in 1945, is inextricably linked to the Paris Opera Ballet. Appointed étoile in 1972, he was assistant to Nureev then maître de ballet, finally associated with the direction, with the responsibility of perpetuating the great tradition of the company.

"When I became étoile dancer of the Paris Opera - says Patrice Bart - I had the pleasure of interpreting the role of Prince Siegfried in the Lake numerous times, from the original by Marius Petipa and in Bourmeister's revival, and then in different versions and in several countries, without ever being fully satisfied with how this role was conceived. However, I had to wait to become a choreographer in order to bring my vision of Swan Lake to life, many years later. The story - continues Bart - is carried over to the 1910s, in which the characters at the height of their delirium leave room for ghosts. I chose this era because in our imagination it represents the "crazy years", of exaggeration. Life ran joyfully towards the catastrophe of the First World War. But in our art only sensations enter, not history. "
