Vittorio Veneto

It is an important restart, a cultural relaunch with an international flavor of a musical event that over time has welcomed generations of young violinists in Vittorio Veneto, many of whom have started a brilliant concert career thanks to the Vittorio Veneto Competition.

The prize violin national team "City of Vittorio Veneto" was born in 1962 on the initiative of some Vittorio fans.

The creator and coordinator of the competition was Mario Benvenuti (1915-1995), violinist and violist from Conegliano, concert player and teacher of the highest profile, member of the “Quintetto Chigiano”, the “Sestetto Chigiano” and the “Virtuosi di Roma”.

Great masters of the Italian scene performed on the Vittorio Veneto stage. For over 50 years, the Vicenza violin competition has seen generations of violinists pass by and has represented the main point of reference for the Italian schools for stringed instruments. For the winners it represented a real springboard for a brilliant concert and teaching career.

In each edition, the best violinists of the Italian scene, as well as well-known composers, conductors and musicologists have been called to be part of the jury. Prominent personalities were invited to chair the selection boards including: Marcello Abbado, Luciano Chailly, Giorgio Ferrari, Ettore Gracis, Virgilio Mortari, Goffredo Petrassi, Leonardo Pinzauti, Massimo Quarta, Uto Ughi.

After six years of suspension, the Municipality of Vittorio Veneto has decided to resume the Competition and relaunch it with an international dimension, addressing young talents, from the European Union e entrusting the artistic direction to the affirmed violinist Francesco De Angelis.
