101st Festival. Classical Music in the Heart of Verona
The Fondazione Arena di Verona, with the closing of its hundredth festival, takes a look at the future of classical music, announcing an extremely rich program for the next two years. 2024 marks important anniversaries, including the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini, a pillar of world opera music. In this context, the Foundation will inaugurate the 101st Festival on 8 June 2024 with "Turandot", Puccini's fairy-tale and spectacular opera, in a dreamlike staging designed by Franco Zeffirelli and costumes by Oscar winner Emi Wada.
Dedicating particular attention to Giacomo Puccini, the Arena Foundation also proposes the revival of "Tosca", with Anna Netrebko in the role of the protagonist, and a special project on "La Bohème", bringing one of the most beloved titles back to the stage after fourteen years.

The programming of Aida, the symbolic opera of the Verona Arena, demonstrates the Foundation's ability to balance tradition and contemporaneity. The first ten performances will feature Stefano Poda's “crystal production”, which stands out for its innovative use of lights and symbolism. Subsequently, the historical installation of 1913, curated by Gianfranco de Bosio, will offer a dive into tradition to celebrate the centenary of his birth.

Special Events in the 101st Festival

The festival is enriched with special events, including dance evenings with Roberto Bolle, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, an evening of Spanish atmospheres with Plácido Domingo, and Carmina Burana by Orff. These events emphasize the diversity and cultural richness proposed by the Arena Foundation, making the festival an international point of reference.

The decision to change show times is interesting, improving accessibility and the public experience. The confirmation of the 2023 tariffs also demonstrates the Foundation's commitment to ensuring the usability of its initiatives to a wide audience, consolidating the role of the Verona Arena as one of the largest and most popular repertory theaters in the world.
